The "Who Should I Vote For" Thread, 2021

Kelvin

I'd intended to start this thread nearer the May, but I see that there's already been some discussion about it.

So, as a bunch of lefties, who should people vote for to send the right message?

Fambo Number Mive

I'm torn - I want to send a message to Labour but my local Labour councillors seem decent enough. Both city and county councils up for election where I am, as well as police and crime commissioner.

Buelligan

Don't vote for Luke Akehurst in St Mary's ward on Oxford City Council.  That is all I ask.  Unless you live in Hartlepool.  In which case, please vote for Thelma Walker.

In England :

1) If it's a Labour council seat that could be realistically be taken by someone even worse then vote Labour, as there is no opportunity to send a message.

2) If it is a safe Labour seat or one they don't have a prayer in vote for the next left one along, but do some research into candidates

3) If it is a Tory or Lib Dem seat Labour can win vote Labour.

In short, if there is a realistic least worst outcome that is in the balance, vote with head not heart. If it is already a done deal then fuck Labour.

I would make an exception if there is an especially awful local candidate you know is an embezzling nonce or something.

Disclosure: I live in a ward which is Scenario 2).

bgmnts

Either Labour or Plaid in the Senedd, probably Plaid.

imitationleather

Labour are in such disarray we don't even get right-wing trolls on here anymore.

chveik

president of mars - elon musk
president of earth - jeff bezos
any other constituencies - baby hitler

Alberon

We don't even get a Labour candidate in the local elections so probably will have to vote Lib Dem.

There's also the elections for the Police Commissioners which I'll probably spoil again with another vote for Judge Dredd.

Kankurette

Dunno, what kind of area are you in?

I live in a very safe Labour seat so it doesn't matter who I vote for (I am voting though), they'll get in. I don't think the NIP are running in Manchester, are they?

Gurke and Hare

London mayoral edition: first choice for Max Fosh, who Wikipedia say is a "YouTuber seeking to win more votes than Laurence Fox", then second choice for Sadiq Khan, who isn't great, but is infinitely better than the alternative.

I 'unno, TUSC, they haven't tried to fuck me yet.

That's hands on, I'm lucky if they even come to the doorstep.

If you're still in the same ward as me, and the same three are standing, I'll be voting for Bithell cos she's sound as fuck (and should leave Labour), but Venner (nice but seems centrist) and Illingworth (invisible) can gtf. Considering Yeadon (nice but seems centrist) went straight to a job with a property developer I'm sure they'll cope.

bomb_dog

Vote whoever is most likely to beat the tories. Easy.

Buelligan

Unless it's Luke Akehurst.  He's genuinely worse than a tory in the sense that he does more harm to socialism per breath.

jobotic

It's only a boy for PCC here. Tory will win anyway and Labour can fuck off. Might be the first election I've not voted in.

DrGreggles

If Labour don't hold Cambridge it'll go Lib Dem, so I'll still have to vote Labour.
Daniel Zeichner seems decent enough though (most of the time), and he's always sent a proper reply whenever I've moaned about anything to him.

ZoyzaSorris

I would have to strictly make it a case by case basis now. I'd vote labour if that specific candidate wasn't an alt-centrist wrong 'un but that's it. Don't think I can bring myself to vote Labour for London mayor tbh. Don't want to encourage them

The Dog

Thought I'd learn about the London ones. Regret starting this now.

1. Max Fosh: Independent[nb]Tory[/nb]
Mostly neck. Think his butler helps him with his little YouTube shows.
Will definitely be a Tory MP when he grows up, so best enjoy his crimson faced antics now before they go bad.

2. Kamran Balayev: Renew[nb]Tory[/nb] (affiliated to the Bilderberg group)
Sinister antagonist in a John Wick movie. NOT happy that his shipment has been delayed.
Favourite thing about London: Harvard Business School
Favourite city in London: New York
Use to work for ministry of justice in Azerbaijan, but probably not in the torturing department.

3. Piers Corbyn: Let London live party[nb]Tory[/nb]
No piers, put it out of its misery.

4. Richard Hewison: Rejoin the EU party[nb]Tory[/nb]
Finance power tool from 'the city'. As Major of London will take the UK back into the EU and there's nothing you provincials can do about it. Likes Britpop from the 90s. Did you know that music is rubbish now we aren't in the EU? Did you know that 10% of London citizens are also EU citizens? That's down from 100% just two years ago! WE MUST STOP THIS EXODUS!

5. Lawrence Fox: The Reclaim Party[nb]Tory[/nb]
TV sidekick and wannabe albino. Making a stand against political correctness, which has RUINED EVERYTHING. Except it wasn't political correctness that ruined Inspector Morse was it? It was the death of John Thaw. This one seems to be famous, which is mad. Inspector Morse is absolute bullshit. Was ok in the 80s but we have the wire now. Imagine going to Eton and then ending up on ITV. No wonder he's mental. You can't even call Lawrence Fox mental nowadays its worse than Ceausescus Romania.

6. Valerie Brown: The Burning Pink Party
Wants to get rid of the Mayor, which sounds good, but wants to replace it with 'citizen assemblies'. Don't think she's ever been to an actual assembly, because they are awful. Twenty minutes of Mr Garside wailing on about honesty like a foghorn and then we all had to sing a Jesus song. Not sure how that's going to help the climate but I guess making us sit on the floor cross legged stops us from driving around in our SUVs. She certainly shouldn't be giving assemblies, not after getting arrested for vandalism. What a terrible example, she really let the school down.

Bored now.

Sebastian Cobb

Isn't Max Fosh the one that only signed up to try and beat Laurence Fox?

The Dog

Yes. Seems to be one of his antics.

Think he might also have been the supreme allied commander in WW1 but I'm not sure. Research is quite boring.

NoSleep

I can follow my instinct for this election. With no desire to condone the Labour Party under its new labourship means that my vote should go where it damages the Tories the most (back to voting for "anything but the Tories"). As it goes, the best way to do this is to vote for the independent candidate who's standing in the area, as he is very likely to win, and there's so many independents in the council now that they're close to toppling the Tories' majority.

Does nobody care about fuckability anymore?

The Dog

After reading that list I don't even care about living anymore to be honest.

George Oscar Bluth II

Not generally for limiting access to the ballot but whatever the deposit for London mayor is needs to go up. Absolutely crawling with independent no hopers in it for the publicity.[nb]And that's just the Lib Dems! LOL![/nb] Fair fucks to the guy who is explicitly running to beat Laurence Fox though.
