The Ombudsman

Thanks for the link, watched this over the weekend. Depressing this was so long ago and yet I seemed to remember having watched it recently.

paruses

Just started to watch this but need to do some work.  Can't wait to watch the rest. Thanks.

Quoteyou go into any store [...] the first thing that you see is "we offer customer service. we deliver." well I put that to test.

I'm going to bloody love this

I remember this, it was fantastic - I'm pretty sure there were some accusations of fakery, but it's still bloody brilliant.  There was another Cutting Edge documentary that was shown around the same time about cowboy builders.  I've searched for it for years but to no avail.  There's a scene where (if I remember rightly) two blokes are trying to plaster a ceiling with a yard brush and it was honestly one of the funniest things I'd seen in a long time.  Again, I'm pretty sure large elements of it was fake, but it was excellent.  I'd love to see it again.

Its not Rogue Males mentioned above is it? Had a quick skim through it and think i saw two plasterers squabbling over something!

Nice one, it seems that's why I'd had years of trouble trying to find it - I was convinced it was called something like "Cowboy Builders" when it was actually "Rogue Males".

Thanks for that! I also always remembered that ceiling scene. Completely forgot about the carpet stuff!

This is sort of related:

Quite amazing compared to the treatment of mental illness on TV now.

Ir's pretty heavy but a brilliant media time capsule and it seems things like this aren't allowed on telly anymore as it might give people ideas

Mr Farenheit

The obnoxious yappy office guy from The Complainers was later on Dragons Den, pitching something that he literally described as a pyramid scheme.

that guy is my favourite thing about the complainers. When I watched it I was in just that right mood where you're tired and something funny sets you off more than usual.

so his whole rant about how you'd react to someone running you and your son over, the exaggerated "What!!" twice and "THE POLICE!!" just had me in hysterics. something about saying the police instead of just "POLICE!" i think that set me off good and proper. bloody lovely.

as for dragons den then i take it that's a genuine business and he's not just some go-to low key actor production companies get away with using for staged stuff because only 13 people are going to say "hang on its him from the complainers"  ?

Mr Farenheit

He's infuriating but really watchable, the 'Dragons' couldn't stand him. I'm sure the DD appearance was a genuine pyramid scheme-business and not staged. Has done a few different things, as evidenced by his linkedin page and this eye-opener from his CV!

Incredible. That film needs to be made.
Hopefully filmed on VHS.

This one is cracking too: The Fun Police

Yes. This is masterfully managed. It lulls the watcher in by appealing to their prejudices of what H&S people must be like and then slowly turns it all round so you realise it's not actually people on an ego-trip, it's just people that for various good reasons care. Still ... 'this is how you pick up a box safely.' Would be better if they did a sequence of: 'IS THIS COOL? IS THIS COOL?' etc.

BlodwynPig

Pancreas mentioned this to me and when I searched on youtube I found something called "The Complainers", but it was one of this 2000/2010s BBC shit documentaries with that bland women saying things like "Susan works in a call center handling complaints for a large manufacturer. She gets over 2,000 calls per day", cut to Susan looking comically exasperated "what are they like...although there is one caller, Arnold, who always raises a smile"...cut to Arnold in his poxy flat talking about the decline in standards.

So good that this is actually a different thing.
