I'm really sorry for starting a new topic which to hardcore CaBs must haveaybe died a death. But for the last 10 days or so I have binged on the American office.

I absolutely love it. To the point I hate myself for dismissing it so easily. Especially as Gervais is a cunt and Steve Carell is an actual talent

But holy moly, forget all that bollocks, when it hits stride its fucking amazing.
I'm only on series 5. But the heart and the emotion in it. Really gripped me. I'm racing through it.

I originally wrote off the last few series, but I've been exposed to a few of those episodes while watching cable at my folks' place, and it seemed to stay pretty funny, if not nearly as good as the first four or five seasons. Yes, The Office US is sweetly pretty, and I want to protect it.

Recently finished watching this for the first time having never got round to it before. I do think it reaches a low point in the later Steve Carell episodes when his previously more nuanced character becomes too simplistic and it seems like ramping up his worst traits is the only trick they can think of to do. If you're going to choose a jumping the shark episode then Jim and Pam's wedding is probably it. However, at some point in series 8 it then attains zombiedom and despite not being what it once was still manages a number of enjoyable and funny episodes.

Have they ever done a porn version called The Orifice?

They should just have put Dwight in charge when Michael left - Dwight is fucking great.

Andy Bernard on the other hand, is a crap character.

Looking on imdb, they actually have. It was made in 2008 and the tagline is "We're always open."

I find Andy incredibly irritating though I do feel sorry for them due to his relationship with his parents, he's rarely a funny character either despite being played by Ed Helms. The show would also have been better, in my view, without the characters of Nellie (one-note obnoxious) or Robert California (creepy and unfunny). Aside from those characters, I think the character development in the US Office is excellent.

Tangentially related, but the porno version of "30 Rock" has some actual good jokes in it.

Didn't 30 Rock acknowledge their own porno parody?
