common misapprehension about Latin

carpe = seize
item = the item

carpe item = seize the item

So the Latin for “the item” is “item”?  How did they pronounce it?

Look, whichever way you cut this, Latin is a dead language so it was obviously a lot shitter than some of you make out.

Seize your the tongue?

or Seize!  You’re the tongue!

(maybe “carpe” is what policemen yelled for “halt”)
