If you had to change your name...

...like if you wanted to join Equity and there was already someone on the books called that. What would you do? Make something up or use a family name or something else?

I'd have my mum's maiden name. It's extremely rare. In that spelling anyway. There is a more common but still not particularly common version. My version has less than 40 worldwide, the majority of whom are in Scotland or England and as far as I know are all related to me. There are also a dozen in Argentina but I'm not sure what that's all about. As far as I know there are no Nazi war criminals in my family.

As for my first name it is extremely common, so I'd probably use a shortened version of my hated middle name. There is a longer version of my first name but I don't particularly like being called that.

So ***** ****** it is then. That should be up in lights.

(Well, either that or the fake name I have used on a couple of occasions based on my home town. Dom Barton. Or perhaps me and my girlfriend's surnames combined. No hyphen and mine first. We both have a 'u' as the second letter you know. And not one other letter in common.)

I went to marksies to pick up a parcel for my sister and she's called Kairen, and the woman called me Keiran so I just went with it.
Felt quite nice to be a Keiran.
had a lad at school called Jason Kryton which I thought was a really cool name, but then red dwarf happened :D

Realtalk, I wanna be called Berenice Dollysocks.

I'd probably ditch my surname and go with a first name + middle name combo.
Mainly because a ridiculous number of people mispronounce my surname, despite me sharing it with a VERY famous person (who I've never heard have their name mispronounced).

From the information you have provided, I deduce that your Equity surname would be Kunntzfuchs. It's edgy, I'll give you that. Particularly in combination with your first names, which the hints you gave in the other thread lead me to believe are Dick Constance.

Drat! So much for secrecy.

If I were a woman, I'd be free to change my surname to anything that I liked, as long as it was the name of my husband. Doesn't seem fair, really. At primary school, one of my teachers got married mid-term and changed her name overnight. Yet, when I returned after the Easter holidays one year and advised my teacher that I now wanted to be known as 'Raunchy Gillespie', I was asked if everything was all right at home and sent to see a child psychologist.

It's called data aggregation, mate. Be warned. Big tech will already have a file as long as your arm on you (and they know how long your arm is).

Snake McSavage.

I decided this when I was about 13, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

My Equity name would be 08/Aug/1988 5613. This is a great game lol

I did stand up for a bit and ended up using my middle name because comperes either struggled to pronounce my surname properly or tried to get a laugh off it which undermined my set somewhat as it had a rather lengthy bit about the struggles of having a shit surname and it needed the audience's sympathy to work.

I occasionally do this mostly because I don't particularly like my surname. People always misspell it too, Partly because of how I say it and partly because the first half of it is a common surname in itself only with an 'e' on the end, but mine has no 'e'.

Kankurette

I have actually thought about getting my name changed by deed poll since the name everyone calls me by is not the one on my birth certificate.

I don't think you're allowed to put "Cunt" on a birth certificate anyway. Good luck x

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

I'd just use my middle initial, like real actors do. Samuel L Jackson, Michael J Fox, Anthony H Wilson. I used to think they were just being pretentious before I heard about the Equity no same name thing.
Alternatively I'd just use my porn star name, which is Smokey Thomas (name of first pet followed by mother's maiden name).

JaDanketies

I once met a bunch of people for the first and last time at university and told them my name was Zachariah, and they were suitably impressed.

Jockice

I've changed my mind. I've just realised I'd have exactly the same name as one of my grandfathers. Who I only met once and by all accounts wasn't a very nice man.  Apparently he was commonly known by the shortened version of my middle name that I was going to use. So that's out.

I'll keep his surname though (cos it's really rare you know) and maybe use my other granda's first name. Although like my dad he actually had the first christian name as me but nobody ever used it.  Wonder if used to open my dad's mail.

Or I could just keep my own first name. Common as muck but with a really rare surname. Did I mention that there are less than 40 worldwide? And only one of them is in America so I'd have no problem cracking the States once they knew who I was.
