I mean of course he was, it was open and shut. Its a small win and hopefully this can propel something going forward, and this can resonate around the world.

Can you imagine the riots if they deliberated and ummed and ahhed too long or went hung jury? Would have been mental.

idunnosomename

can anyone explain or point me to something explaining the three charges of third-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter and second-degree murder, and how you can be guilty of all three simultaneously? why isn't it just second-degree murder?

jobotic

Yes of course he was guilty. But white racist murderer cops don't ever face justice, and this one has.

Obviously without any other changes it means little but let's not deny its importance.

Here's to many more of these filth going down, or even better thinking they don't have the entitlement to murder black people without consequences for themselves.

Enjoy prison, cunt.

From what I've just heard the three are there to give the jury options. Not either guilty of second degree murder or innocent, done nothing wrong.

Seems a bit odd though, I agree.

Well I think it's good he's been convicted. I know there's a lot of CaB centrists lurking who'll think it's "toxic" or hateful, and aggressive to wish jail on someone, but I think he deserves it.

The tolerant left there for you.

idunnosomename

I think it's very high manslaughter personally, like the other two murders this thread is about (but of course Im just a dunce on the internet who hasnt read all the details) but also did he ever get training to do the knee-neck thing? I mean still manslaughter can be prison for the best part of your life, not diminishing it or anything.

the more recent two are worse from what I can see. they pointed a gun at them and shot them. that's just fucking murder.

all of this shit is systemic and while the individuals deserve all their prosecutions it isnt going to stop it happening again.

Surely, the centrist/right-wing take would be for retribution; a more socialist/compassionate take would be restorative justice and rehabilitation.

Why don't the police just... let them run away? Call in backup, give chase, sure, but why resort immediately to fatal violence? Why sending someone's life preferable to them staving off arrest for a few more days?

There was a video of a car veering slowly to the left and the cop just empties their gun into the car through the windows like Steve Buscemi in Reservoir Dogs, just bam bam bam bam bam bam. Two dead teenagers.

1. Pretty much every American cop gets a gun.
2. They don't get that much training before getting their gun.
3. The training is all about the cops safety, paramount no.1 priority.
4. The culture is the cop is always in ultimate control.

There's another video of an old woman with dementia wandering out of Walmart with about a tenner of goods on her. Cops says do this do that obey me NOW. She keeps walking away. 2 minutes later she's handcuffed and pushed against the car with fractured bones.

It's in the culture. It's in the training. Control. Dominate. Don't give an inch.

Well you deserve punishment for your crime dont you? Hopefully this leads to reform and rehabilitation of the systemic problems. Think of the thousands of police who have gotten away with murder scot free.

Hopefully his sentence is more than a slap on the wrist.

Fucking hell Nancy.

Saw another Democrat fucking up around this, a congresswoman inciting violence if there was a guilty verdict, which apparently the judge said Chauvin might be able to use if he decides to appeal.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-56810245

I guess Trump has shown that you can say stuff like that without consequences but it will give Republicans ammunition whenever the Capitol stuff is brought up.

Amazing stuff about the conviction though, it's very rare that police are brought to justice in these sort of cases so despite it seeming like an obvious verdict, it is still an important one.

QuoteOn Monday, Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader of the Democratic-controlled Senate, blasted Ms Waters, saying: "It's harder to imagine anything more inappropriate than a member of Congress flying in from California to inform local leaders, not so subtly, that this defendant better be found guilty or else there'll be big trouble in the streets."
OH I DON'T KNOW MOSCOW MITCH, what about the outgoing President encouraging his supporters to storm the Capitol building because the Democrats stole the election?!

And she didn't "incite violence". This is what was said:

Quote from: Maxine WatersIf there is a not-guilty verdict in Mr Chauvin's trial, Ms Waters said, "then we know that we got to not only stay in the street, but we have got to fight for justice".

She also said: "We've got to get more confrontational. We've got to make sure that they know that we mean business."

Of the curfew, Ms Waters said: "I don't think anything about curfew. Curfew means I want you all to stop talking. I want you to stop meeting. I want you to stop gathering. I don't agree with that."

Setting aside the jargon of Minnesota law:
- Floyd made it fairly clear to Chauvin that he was killing him
- Chauvin continued to kneel on Floyd even after another office found no pulse (possibly after EMTs found no pulse)

He had extremely good reason to believe that he was killing him, while he was doing so.

Correct. Floyd was a MAN, Chauvin deliberately SLAUGHTERED him. It's open and shut.

All right, you scrawny beanpoles. Becoming a cop is not something that happens overnight. It takes one solid weekend of training to get that badge.

Sorry, but if Trump had said during a trial that if the wrong verdict was given then protesters have "..to get more confrontational. We've got to make sure that they know that we mean business." he would rightly be admonished.

It was a really stupid thing to say. Actually quite a Trump-like thing to say. Just because Trump consistently said stuff like that doesn't mean it's okay when Democrats do as well.

Thankfully the right verdict was given so it's moot, unless her words are used in an appeal as the judge seems to think they might be.

He might have removed his knee earlier if those standbyers hadn't been filming and shouting at him, but he couldn't allow himself to appear to give in to, or be undermined by, young, black people. Toxic masculinity.

He fucking did that during the election! He's suffered no consequence! The Republicans barely gave a shit!

He was not pushed back into the car.  He violently broke free from the officer that was trying to place him in handcuffs, jumped back into the car in an attempt to drive away.

Washington state law does not apply, as this incident happenned in the state of Minnesota.  Brooklyn Center, Washington County, Minnesota.

Officer may have felt threatened by the fact that they were dealing with someone who had an active arrest warrant for violating the condition of his bail on charges of aggravated armed robbery, and was attempting to escape by driving through 3 police officers.

I'm really sorry that you've suffered this level of toxic neural damage to your brain after sustained licking of polish from travelling back and forth to the US for your career of licking police officers boots. Beingacunt is a terrible syndrome to cope with.

You can always trust Pelosi to pick the most bonkers, out of touch, trivial, monstrous thing to do in any given situation. From the woman who brought us kneeling in a cloth rather than doing her job comes thanking a black man for being fed into the murder machine.

I'm not defending Trump or Republicans, he and they are awful.

Trump facing no consequences doesn't mean Democrats can just saw whatever the fuck they like as well though, or it shouldn't at least.
