Jeez, this came out of nowhere.  Digital Underground founder and frequent 2pac collaborator, Shock G (a.k.a. Humpty Hump, his alter ego) has died. He was found dead in a hotel room with the cause of death not yet known.

Of all the hip hop acts heavily influenced by George Clinton and P Funk I think he was probably the most original.

RIP Shock G.

What a shame. RIP.

At the time it came out I had mostly moved onto other music, but Sex Packets was a great album and for hip hop at the time was I think rare in properly working as a whole listen. Still play it every now and again. At least one UK music journalist seemed to be taken in by the idea that the drug in the title sequence was actually real. RIP.

Just about to start a thread so the first reference to this guy wouldn't be the Humpty Dance. Was gonna go with "Heartbeat Props".

Sex Packets and Sons of the P are immortal. Give Sons a listen if you've overlooked it.

At a peak of safe-sex styff and moral panics about sleazy hiphop, its worthy of a Chris Morris forum this guy tried to cause a moral panic about a drug whose only effect was to make the user imagine they were having sex "what are these, condoms?" All the puerile yukking and arf-arfing on that record all with such sharp idea at the heart of it.

This is rubs, all my fav rappers are carking it well before their time.

Yeah, same, their first two albums are great. Thier 3rd and 4th are decent i really like Fool Get a Clue on that it has a lovely sentiment at it's heart barring for one dumb transphobic line https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0Xk2oWZ6UI

I'd also add No nose Job https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iYhEE2YZbk and Family of the Underground https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYMDlqYexV8 as 2nd album favs

Sex Packets must have been one of the earliest hip hop concept albums, and yeah, No Nose Job was probably their biggest subsequent highlight for me.

gutted about this. The Humpty Dance is one of my fave hip hop tunes and Sex Packets is an ace album.
