Cummings attacks Johnson

"Westminster tittle-tattle" that people don't care about or another example of government venality?

To be honest, if Cummings had such a low opinion of Johnson, why did he carry on working for him?

QuoteMr Cummings continues that he is "happy for No 10 to publish every email I received and sent July 2019-November 2020".

He also calls for an "urgent parliamentary inquiry into the government's conduct over the Covid crisis", adding that he thinks Mr Johnson has fallen "far below" the standards of "competence" the "country deserves".

Mr Cummings promises to answer questions about "any" issues when he appears before a parliamentary inquiry into the government's pandemic response on 26 May...

In his blog, Mr Cummings also claimed the prime minister once planned to have donors "secretly pay" for renovation of his official Downing street flat.

Like several of his recent predecessors, the PM is living in the flat above No 11 Downing Street, which is larger than the one above No 10.

He adds that Mr Johnson "stopped speaking to me about the matter in 2020", as he told him the renovation plans were "unethical, foolish, possibly illegal and almost certainly broke the rules on proper disclosure of political donations if conducted in the way he intended".

I don't think the Cummings accusations will change many people's opinions of this government - Johnson fans, like Trump fans, will defend their man no matter what he is accused of.

However, it's quite amusing to see the two bicker. It's also interesting that Labour are very keen to attack the government over sleaze (copying Blair in the early 1990s?) but not so much their COVID response or dog's arse of a Brexit. And of course, where the Tories lead on xenophobia and nationalism Labour seem to follow since Keith too k over.

Poirots BigGarlickyCorpse

Fucking jackal. Imagine having the brass balls to screech about the government's conduct over the pandemic when you travelled all over the place coughing COVID into your inlaws' faces, and then lied about having sick eyes or whatever. He thinks Johnson is going to be gone soon. That's why he's doing this.

BlodwynPig

It's more than bickering Fambo. 30 years ago this would have brought the government to its knees and I would have been tumescent for weeks. Not now of course, but only because of centrist capitulation to their masters and social media making us all herdiots.

Great, though maybe a bit premature.

"Big farting arse" says a source close to Downing street.

Cummings is sticking the boot into Boris because he probably reckons Bozza has the inferior intellect and is pussywhipped by Carrie and her cabal which led to him finally being given the heave ho. I had
Cummings down for doing a Mandleson and making a comeback after a suitable time had elapsed. Seems he has decided that isn't going to be the case so he is twisting the knife.

Like is being said above it will take a lot more than an embittered ex aide, no matter what a clever clogs he may be or thinks he is, to bring this current lot down.

What puzzles me is where do you go after having been at the heart of government? After being dumped out of No 10 he could hardly rock up at the job centre and the traditional route of a place on the board of a mega company doesn't seem Cummings style especially as I am guessing no one takes his calls anymore even in this crony filled shower. I know he was getting a fair whack in his last job and his family don't seem short of a Bob or two, but seriously what's next?

C'mon. What kind of dinner would be topped off with a speech from Nosferatu?

Raw brains washed down with the blood of virgins?

Turning Point annual dinner.

It does seem that the word 'sleaze' is attaching itself to this government in the mind of the public, what with this and all the PPE stuff. Nice to see it all over the front pages of the papers - even the ones trying to defend it are just drawing more attention.

Interesting to read in the Guardian that Boris is grey with rage over the whole Cummings thing, too. Anything that chips away at his bumbling jolly image is great with me - and the more legitimately angry he gets the better

peanutbutter

Ultimately this is just Cummings doing some stuff to remind people he exists, innit? Until he finds a new project to attach himself to the main goal is to just prevent himself being branded as some kind of weirdo outlier or a Johnson underling.

'genocidal' would be preferable though

Pranet

According to the Sunday Times Cummings is worried by the thought that he will end up in prison (for something he did with vote leave or things he did in government) , and this is why he is doing what he is doing.

People don't care about sleaze. It's abstract and they don't see how it affects them. They didn't care about it 1992-1997 either. The Tories were a dying star with no new ideas and would have been beaten by a paedo as long as they weren't wearing a blue rosette.

Sebastian Cobb

The sleazes stuff doesn't make much sense since labour's position are that they're for sale, and open for business, just the bribes have to be within the accepted 'cash for access' and 'corporate lobbying' framework. In reality they're still bent, just sightly less overtly cronyish about it, slightly.

Ian Cummings and Ian Johnson are the landlords are the White Supremacist's Arms, each week they kill over three hundred people with no consequences.

idunnosomename

the tory party is run by a bunch of dingbats at the moment, it's always the plan johnson will get turfed out at some point. in fact he probably can't wait because this pm biz is bally hard lark eh lads. and then he doesnt have to marry symonds, who he clearly doesnt like that much

for someone that got to be prime minister, hes a fucking pathetic mess of a man

Indeed. And how long after the 1 May 1997 was it that Bernie Ecclestone's dealings with Labour came out?
