I think might actually have reached Peak Welsh with this, and I spent yesterday evening compiling the only coherent public list of Welsh names for a certain set of institutions out of the goodness of my heart.

Good luck pronouncing that one, SatNav! And I thought climbing it was hard.

I moved to Wales and it's not bad.

They should hold a referendum on a name change, that would be a good way to get the public united behind the proposals.

I believe Snowdon is in the part of Wales where they actually speak Welsh, but would be interested to know what the locals call it. Probably <bird noise>.

Glebe

I think it should be renamed 'There's lovely!'

Lots of this about at the moment but then there's elections soon and it's an easy attention grabber. Times and Telegraph seem a bit obsessed with reporting it based on the push notifications I have had the last couple days.  Not sure if they are sneering or not though as I don't click through.

Mount Everest named after a Welshman as a bit of a balance.

Is it pronounced "grave"?

Jittlebags

I'd be tempted to drop the vowels from Eryri, and call it Rrrrrr.

dissolute ocelot

They should name it after Prince Philip.

Ydw!

More push notifications from The Telegraph on this - having a go at the Welsh this time for having a cafe a train on the mountain. At least you could say that they are balanced in their approach to the subject.

How's Lord Snowdon going to feel if they do that? Have a bit of respect

A good suggestion for a name everyone can get behind for Snowdon is BASTARD*

*Has to be all caps

The Welsh name – your Wyddfa – means "the tumulus" or "the barrow", which may refer to the cairn thrown over the legendary giant Rhitta Gawr after his defeat by King Arthur.

The English name "Snowdon" comes from the Old English snaw dun meaning "snow hill" BECAUSE SNOW ON TOP OF HILL

JamesTC

These days, if you call it Snowdon you get arrested and thrown in jail.

dissolute ocelot

They should call it Jones the Mountain.

Bit close to the Welsh for office though
