Jersey fishing conflict - a new Cod War?

Thread to discuss the conflict between French fisherpeople (why do we still call them fishermen?) and the Jersey government.

I'm not sure why Jersey asked for further demands from the French fisherpeople, but the threat of cutting off electricity to the whole island seems very harsh. Let's hope this can be resolved soon and doesn't turn into another Cod War like with Iceland.

I'm sure Johnson has fantasies of another Falklands style conflict to add to the blood on his hands.

Hey who wants to see Johnson's Brexit shithole country summed up in a tweet?

People are claiming that this is part of the tours of Elizabeth Castle and nothing to do with the French fishing boats:

I think the UK media would love want a war with France. Reminds me of this segment from The Day Today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IEwBrJzhlg

Kankurette

This is a cod war, you better know what you're fighting for...

Leave the fish alone, pick on someone your own size.

We've just taken the last 30 years of cod peace for granted.

Zetetic

The consequences of a war with France would be dreadful.

The fishing towns of the UK reduced to depopulated wastelands, the remaining inhabitants shuffling past abandoned shops and derelict factories. Unimaginable.

Dr Trouser

Hope it's better than the Falklands War Conflict, as it was hard work having to wait for the footage of are brave bouys bashing the argies, or for the photos to appear in the newspapers.

Hoping for real time drone kill footage straight to my phone so I can watch naval warfare while on the bog.

I'm afraid all French posters on CaB will now be rounded up and interned within their own sub-forum for the duration of the conflict.

And they have been corrected in thread:

Fambo Number Mive

I think that quote is from Jersey's External Relation's Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and they just stuck the video in the middle of it.

@dan_nailed seems to think the quote below the video is from the bloke firing the musket, but I think he is wrong.

Blimey! If that's true, then that is some atrocious journalism.

At least these people wanking themselves dry over the thought of war with France would presumably be happy to sacrifice themselves for the cause.

Nuclear bomb dropped straight on Saint Helier. That'll sort it all out.

You can tell your Brussell's Bureaucratic Bosses we've had Brexit now so we will be wearing our Cod Pieces any way we want to, thank you very much!

This seems to have disappeared from the media after the local elections.

Coincidence, I'm sure.
