A lesser known, but vital link in the rock and roll chain. Sang and wrote Lawdy Miss Clawdy, which Elvis played and used to great effect on the 68 Comeback Special and the brilliant Stagger Lee, beloved by The Clash and subverted by Nick Cave (I know it's a totally different song).
I remember years ago going into HMV and asking if they had any if his stuff and they were clueless. Thankfully Goldmine records still had a shop in Manchester at the time.

Agreed, Stagger Lee is superb. So much crammed into just over two minutes, but everything has its place and just works. There's even time for two saxophone 'solos'.
