They've got LBC, what do they need this for?

How many weeks into this before Neil's mania results in him blowing his brains out live on air?

I think he's more likely to get his cock out.

I suspect I've asked this before, but I'm not sure I see much longevity in a channel where the entire team basically echoes the thoughts of the viewers. These people want something to react to and make them feel like they're railing against some 'liberal elite' or whatever. Having Andrew Neil or some other goon basically saying (for instance) "yes, I agree with you that gay people have got a bit too uppity" isn't going to provide that endorphin rush.

If the channel was basically disabled lesbian single mothers from Africa presenting the shows, they'd make a killing from having a premium phone line for knobheads to scream abuse at them. Otherwise, it may be gone in a year.

I'm guessing they'll feature a few centralist lib guests to up the hate viewing potential.

Good point. Plenty of ex-Labour MPs out there who would be happy to play the Jester.

Actually, that's exactly what people want. This channel is going to be 50% proper news and 50% culture war bullshit, just like Fox News. Or at least it'll start out 50/50 and then slide further and further towards culture war bullshit.

You could be right, but I do wonder if this audience wants something to argue with. Does having biases reaffirmed have much of a shelf life? I suppose they could milk slagging off the "woke" BBC for a fair bit.

Gloria de Piero is one of the presenters, I think. Lord Ian Austin can't be far behind.

This is where the culture war bullshit comes in. It's not that they'll have a host with liberal views to anger the audience. They'll have a gammon-faced bigot bloviating about pronouns and Mx Potato-Head and changing Fatty's name to Freddie in the Bash Street Kids. Their audience wants to be told that the world is going to hell in a transgender handbasket, except you can't say hell anymore because you might offend the Muslims. Why, you couldn't make it up.

Aye, but Fox exists and works; I presume they play off the dynamic you're correctly describing by 'reporting' on things to rail against, trans geography teachers, 'critical race theory', whatever, and then providing a platform and an emotional language to shape the kind of railing that's done.

I suppose we could call in an endlessly prank the fucks but FROM THE LEFT? Chris from Not Even a Show does this with far-right/conservative phone-ins over in the US, forcing some to stop the phone-in sections. Or even have mental breakdowns. "Shirt". He and others relentlessly hound Giuliani with the FACT that he married his cousin. They end up coming across as sad bigoted old men with degenerative illnesses, rather than titans of free speech.

I was reading about how they aim finance this mainly through having a dedicated subscription-based media ecosystem where a few really dedicated types pay through the nose for exclusive content, backstage passes and things. I wonder how this will turn out. I presume that they aim to maintain a place on the centre-right, with the regular sort of small c conservative bigotry that the mail and express trade off. But at some point the audience is going to want the stronger stuff.

I mean, Fox news had the benefit of being an established news network with a massive inbuilt audience for years, and even they are  losing people to Infowars and OANN. If GB News really want to grow a large, captive audience base won't they have to offer the rubes something they really can't get anywhere else? The proper, uncut stuff? News headlines that reflect their Facebook feed. How many of the already established presenters would be happy risking their career giving that to them.

Fox also had/has the advantage of being in America, where utter paranoia about anything even slightly "socialist" has been ingrained in them since 1945 (maybe even earlier). I can see how this country is going that way, just not sure there's the numbers to maintain a totally new TV station for any real length of time.

Won't GB News have to have at least some semblance of balance due to UK broadcasting regulations?

It would be great if Andrew Neil has to have dinners and make personal calls to the type of nutter who would pay an inflated premium subscription fee.

Will happily get phoning if they're doing a call in,

Would a coordinated cab phone in be a fun thing to do?

Yep, reach out to Chris in Canada and im sure he'll put us on the show (its a show this season)

He did the Farage one and there are a few Brits who get involved both phoning US and UK livestreams/radio shows

They'll just stretch what the BBC currently do to breaking point.

"Here to discuss Scottish independence, we're joined by John Bastard from the Institute For Fucking The Scots Under The Boot Of Rightful English Rule, and a confused woman we found in the street who looks a bit like Nicola Sturgeon."

I reckon ITV is still more unashamedly reactionary in its news, it just doesn't have a framework to ensure 'impartiality' that mostly gaslights people into thinking it is somehow balanced or socially liberal.

Meanwhile a 14 year old boy in Birmingham is racially abused then stabbed to death.

Good morning! Here is the news:

Britain is great!

The queen is doing fine!

LOOK AT ME BIG BEEF HEART

Fambo Number Mive

I wonder if GB News will obsessively focus on every violent crime in London as part of the right wing media's attempt to discredit Sadiq Khan. I'm not saying parts of London dont have a serious crime problem, but the same people who try to shift the blame away from the Government on covid by claiming "it is the fault of rulebreakers/the Chinese government/scientists not the government" seem to hold Khan responsible every time a violent crime is reported in London. Wonder if they will be constantly criticising scientists like much of the right wing media. It was scientists who came up with the vaccines that the gammons praise Johnson for, but facts don't seem to matter to these people.

dissolute ocelot

The main penalty imposed for bias is a fine (as with Russia Today, now RT) so as long as the owners have deep pockets they can keep going: RT UK has been broadcasting pro-Putin bullshit for 7 years. The Chinese equivalent lost its licence this year, but that was for rules about ownership and editorial control which won't apply to GB News, and not for biased reporting.

monkfromhavana

All I know is, if they're not wearing massive poppies on their first broadcast next month, they hate Britain.

Fambo Number Mive

They should have their faces surgically altered to resemble Winston Churchill and Captain Tom.
