Declaiming that "women feel unsafe in public" after holding a fucking transphobic rally in public, which has no purpose but to make trans people feel unsafe and support someone accused of hate speech against vulnerable people.
On "women feel unsafe in public": We don't actually feel unsafe in public all the time. In fact every woman you know has done at least one stupid thing that could've ended really badly because she felt safe, like, ohhhh, walk home from the city centre at 1am because she couldn't be arsed trying to find a taxi, or arranged to meet a strange man in a town she's never been to before so she can test-drive the car he's selling.[1] And I don't want to speak for all women everywhere, but when I do feel unsafe in public, it's usually because of a bunch of dodgy/drunk cis men. Very rarely will another woman or women make me feel unsafe, cis or trans.[2]
 1. Just to pick two examples completely at random.
 2. Groups of teenagers make me nervous but that's an age thing, not a woman thing.

Mentalmorphosis
by Franz Kafka

One morning, when Graham Linehan woke from troubled dreams, he/she/they found himself transformed in his/her/their bed into a genderfluid she-man. He/she/they lay on his/her/their feminine back, and if he/she/they lifted his/her/their head a little he/she/they could see his/her/their saggy man-tits, slightly perky and fuller. The bedding was hardly able to cover them and seemed ready to slide off any moment. His/her/their long, sensuous legs, alluringly thin compared with the size of the rest of him/her/them, writhed about helplessly as he/she/they looked.

“What’s happened to me?” he/she/they thought. It wasn’t a dream. His/her/their room, a proper adult human male room although a little too small, his racecar bed, were peacefully between its four familiar walls.

Glinner then turned to look out the window at the dull weather. Drops of rain could be heard hitting the pane, which made him/her/them feel quite sad. “How about if I sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense”, he/she/they thought, but that was something he/she/they was unable to do because he/she/they was used to sleeping on his/her/their right, and in his/her/their present state couldn’t get into that position. However hard he/she/they threw himself onto his/her/their right, he/she/they always rolled back to where he/she/they was, to get a better view of his/her/their ever engorging breasts with their pale pink nipples.  He/she/they could not stop looking at them in wonder.

“Oh, God”, he/she/they thought, “what a strenuous career it is that I’ve chosen! Tweeting day in and day out. Doing business like this takes much more effort than writing Pope Ted or anything else he ought to be writing, and on top of that there’s the curse of never travelling, worries about making internet connections, bad and irregular food, severing contact with different people all the time so that you can never get to know anyone or become friendly with them ever again, like the COWARD Jon Ronson. It can all go to Hell!”

He/she/they felt a slight itch up on his/her/their belly; pushed himself/herself/themself slowly up on his back towards the headboard so that he could lift his/her/their head better; found where the itch was, and saw that his/her/their small penis was poking stiff, and he/she/they hadn’t even been looking at any porn, which he/she/they never did, honest.
What a mess I'm in, he/she/they thought wryly....

This person filmed a 360 drone shot of the event and hahahahaha the turnout is really piss poor a Buchanan Street busker would be disappointed by that crowd

Here's a still in case anyone's curious. Fucking pathetic turnout, especially if this is the "something big" he'd been teasing. Bigger audience than Count Arthur Strong, I guess.

This is why it's so aggravating. They're protesting against trans people existing (that is what it fucking was, I don't care if they pretended otherwise), and in their defence they say "men make women feel unsafe", which has nothing to do with trans people at all. And they don't think trans women are men. If they did, they wouldn't be directing all their venom and hate specifically at us. They know we don't have the power and privilege that cis men have, they know institutional power is stacked against us, they know that abusive men will join in, and that makes us an easy target that's probably not going to push back very hard.

From his speech: "Any time you're asked for your pronouns, told to put them in your signature or anything like that, I want you to say: 'Sorry, I find those terms offensive".

Just a quick straw poll: Have any cis people on here - or anywhere on the planet - ever been asked for their pronouns, or told to "put them in your signature" by another human being?

Nope. I know (pretty vaguely) a few people who use them but they've never asked me what mine are.

In their fevered minds the world is full of men who just decide on a whim to pretend to be a woman to access women's toilets, or go in a woman's prison, or just because they want the female experience.

There is also the idea that trans women aren't "real" women because they haven't had the lived experience of being a woman prior to their transition. What is that though, and are women so homogenous that their shared experience is so easily defined? Sounds a bit sexist to me, but then these people also seem very keen to boil women down to their reproductive system just to exclude trans women, so there is previous there.

If there was a kind of utilitarian mindset about them, they'd come across less bigoted. If they said, "I appreciate that preventing trans women from using the facilities of their choice will cause psychological harm to people with gender dysphoria, but I think that allowing people to use the facilities of their choice will cause more harm to women because of the number of psychopaths that would take advantage of the situation," then you could believe that they were making an argument based on weighing up the pros and cons and coming to a least-harm conclusion, albeit one you disagree with.

But instead they claim that their position is not going to cause harm to anyone, presumably because they know if they admitted that it would, they would know that they would lose the utilitarian argument, as the harms they would cause to trans women would likely be several times greater than the harms women would endure.

But materially how is it different that trans women are "allowed" to use women's toilets? There aren't security guards outside each public lavatory. A man could still dress up as a woman and go into one just as much as a woman can try and stop a trans woman from entering now or in the future. If someone does something inappropriate or illegal then they will still suffer the same ramifications, male or trans woman, now or in the future. It is all bunk

Re: Glin's Slide No. 9: TransIXclusionary
« Reply #1734 on: July 22, 2021, 11:31:34 AM »
It is all bunk

Yes. Their arguments are all constructed retroactively to justify transphobia. They will hold multiple contradictory positions, including overtly misogynist ones, as long as the end result harms trans people. It'll be "biological reality" up until that stops being convenient, then it'll switch to "shared experience", then back again. They're completely and openly dishonest about what their position actually is ("trans people are gross freaks and should stop existing") and want to be treated as though it's "women's rights need safeguarding" instead, hence Philimore's non-sequitur pivot from "let's rally around a woman accused of hate speech" to "women are treated worse as their bodies age". If you disagree with one statement, you disagree with both, apparently?

A lot of it comes from a specific demographic of women not being able to control the discourse around feminism like they used to. I'm a lapsed academic from this field, and so much of the feminist work that informed these people assumes universal experiences, written by... white cis women from the global north. So if you're big on declaiming that women are oppressed, the revelation that women like you are complicit in oppressing other women means you need to maybe step back and listen to them, and take on board things you might not like to hear. Alternatively, you can dig your heels in and present those challenges as yet another tool of patriarchy which is going to be reSISTERed by WITCHES and then walk in lockstep with the far right because they hate other women slightly more than you. Graham, also fuelled by wounded vanity after discovering he's not the cuddly male saviour he thought he was, gels perfectly.

The company I work for recently announced that you could put your pronouns in your email signature and sent out a style guide saying where to put them (I forget if it's before or after phone number), but I've not noticed anyone doing it. It's annoying because if you have dealings with people from around the world in business or other activities, it would genuinely be useful to know to say "I got an email from Aiping and he/she/they said". Would it be less triggering for the TERFs if you put Mr/Ms/Mx instead?
