Been trying to figure out from fastly's site what they actually do. I was off school the day that the words "edge" and "cloud" were deemed acceptable bedfellows. Whatever it is, they do it quickly!

Even big companies like Amazon can't be fucked to run their own servers all over the place, like in each city, they'd rather have a big fat datacenter somewhere.

So they farm that bit out to places like Fastly, who put their servers at the 'edge' between your computer and Amazon's data center.  It lets them have faster load times and DDOS protection.

Yeah they're just a caching layer like cloudfare/akamai aren't they?

The aws version of this is 'cloudfront', I didn't realise they farmed it out as well.
