The horrendous luck of the obscenely wealthy

These family tragedies often seem to happen to these people. First the Gettys, now the Ashcrofts. With, er,  some others in between...probably.

I mean we've all accidentally shot the police chief while giving him a massage but it seems so much sadder when our betters do it. Dunno how she shot him in the back of the head while passing the gun back to him, mind.

The Times go for the sympathy for a white pretty woman schtick

At the risk of upsetting some of the forum's misogynists any news rich people are dead is fantastic and I am sure we can all enthusiastically agree when I say Excellent, let's have some more of that.

Edit oh wait that's not what happened

Please don't blow this out of proportion! Jasmine is aware of her mistake and she immediately apologised to the whole nation of Belize. She only wanted to show her group 'let's start acting sensibly like the police now', she didn't mean any disrespect. Of course, it was unfortunate.

Reminds me of this little prick:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/07/24/world/asia/thailand-crash-red-bull-heir.amp.html

Smashed into a policeman after snorting coke off the dashboard of his Ferrari and dragged his dying body down the road. You’d think he’d be in prison getting bounced off the walls by warders 24/7 for the rest of his life, but he’s the grandson of the founder of the Red Bull corporation and a scion of one of the richest families in Asia. And this is Thailand.

Quote
But in a case often cited as an example of the special treatment received by Thailand’s elite, Mr. Vorayuth was never brought to justice. He fled the country and has been living in luxury for years.

On Friday, the police said they were dropping the last charge in the case, reckless driving resulting in someone’s death, and were withdrawing Thai and Interpol warrants for his arrest.

Belize is a weird place, isn't it? If I were to disappear and start a new life as some sort of shady enforcer for dubious capital, you an bet your bottom dollar I wouldn't make it out of the country. But if I were to, Belize would be a good place for me to go.
