Bang the Drum All Day, Todd Rundgren, 1983 - cover version about 1985?

I remember this song being played on Steve Wright's Afternoon Show in 1985/85 - but it was not Rundgren's version but the it sounded like a cover by Musical Youth singing or at least the vocals were very similar to theirs.  Can anyone enlighten me on this?
