Is it DOWN the arse?

Shoulders?-Stomach!

I have a funny feeling the correct term isn't 'up the arse' but 'down the arse', as in down, going down into the hole.

I'm only asking so I can prepare a new thread!

Depends purely on the orientation of the listener.

I don't see how 'across the arse' is functional in this sense.

"Across the arse" is more of a nautical expression.  As land-dwellers you and I need only imagine everything in 2 dimensions.

Down the arse.....

....and pass the parcel

This is a test for whether your accent fits with the human tongue.  Good luck!
