There is a video on lots of news outlets of Chris Whitty being 'manhandled' by two absolute bell ends in St James Park. What the fuck is it with these tossers?

I'm not normally one for harsh punishments but in this case hanging is too good for 'em.

Those guys seem like a right pair of cunts. My word.

Bernice

Obviously this is bad but I did find it quite funny.

buttgammon

A bunch of conspiracy twats came into my university campus, screaming at anyone in the vicinity demanding to be brought to 'meet' a top virologist who works there. Obviously he wasn't on campus, because virtually everyone is working from home, he's very busy advising the government and they were in the wrong place anyway, but where do they get off?

Kankurette

Lee Hurst saying it's not enough because of course he is.

ASFTSN

Looks a bit like more general wheeey it's that bloke off the telly style absolute twattery than covid skepticism twattery. Although of course there's a big juicy Venn overlap there I'm sure.

Which is dumb cos it wasnt an anti-lockdown thing, it was two pissed up idiots going 'waheeeeey, giz a photo ahahahahahaha' in that sort of faux-matey, somewhat-threatening manner that the hard kids like to adopt with the school nerds every now and then.

Hurst is a comic very much in the Robb Wilton tradition.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Id like to scrub such people from existence

The harassment in the clip is hideous, but some of the people condemning it are going a bit over the top, actually praising Whitty for the way he's guided our pandemic response.

Butchers Blind

What the hell is Whitty playing at here? Yeah, we all like to have a laugh and let our hair down[nb]I know he's bald[/nb] with our mates after work, but there's a time and place. No social distancing and no mask, a disgrace.

I love to get more engagement on my tweets by censoring "sucking"

He's one of the better ones. His work rate has been phenomenal. Sadly he's been fighting against Tory interests for much of it. Nice guy, hugely intelligent.

Didnt know this about his father

QuoteBefore leaving Malvern, a month before he turned 18, Whitty's father was shot dead in a terrorist attack in Greece. Ken Whitty, then director of the British Council in Athens, was killed by a gunman as he drove home with work colleagues, one of whom also died in the shooting. The murders were claimed by the Revolutionary Organisation of Socialist Muslims, an international terrorist organisation set up by Sabri al-Banna, better known by his nom de guerre Abu Nidal. The attacker apparently mistook Ken Whitty for an MI6 officer he bought a car from.

He's the perfect figurehead for centrists to project onto - a hardworking personification of reason lending respectability to the whole horrible enterprise.

And at the same time, this affairs lends itself perfectly to advancing the cause of clamping down on protests beyond the openly Tory aligned - if these common "thugs" can say their hellos to Christopher "Chris" Whitty (Companion of the Order of the Bath), one of the sensible people, imagine what someone with excitingly-coloured hair might do you, your car, or your property.

QuoteA man has apologised over footage which appears to show England's chief medical officer, Prof Chris Whitty, being accosted in a park.

Lewis Hughes, from Romford, told the Sun he was sorry for "any upset I caused".

The video shows two men laughing and jeering as they grab hold of Prof Whitty, who struggles to free himself.

The Met Police are investigating the footage, which the force said happened in St James's Park in London on Sunday.

Mr Hughes, a 24-year-old estate agent, told the newspaper he had lost his job following the incident.

"If I made [Prof Whitty] feel uncomfortable, which it does look like I did, then I am sorry to him for that," he said.

His friend Jonathan Chew, 24, said: "We just wanted a selfie."

If you just wanted a selfie, wouldn't you just ask rather than grab hold of someone and try and stop them from freeing themselves?

The Independent has more details

https://inews.co.uk/news/chris-whitty-lewis-hughes-estate-agent-accosted-chief-medical-officer-park-video-loses-job-1080714?ITO=msn

QuoteMr Hughes said he has lost his job at Caplan Estate Agents as a result of the incident, and revealed that the pair had been on an anti-vax demonstration when they spotted the Chief Medical Officer...

"I absolutely apologise for any upset I caused. If I made him feel uncomfortable, which it does look like I did, then I am sorry to him for that," he said. "He is quite a timid, shy person and I think that is why he didn't say, "Get off me". If he had said that and I had realised how he felt, I wouldn't have put my arm round him."

Mr Hughes insisted he "just wanted a selfie" to show to his mum and insisted there was "no malicious intent". He admitted drinking with his friend before the incident but said he felt "led down by Boris" following the Prime Minister's condemnation, after voting for him in the last election.

The Essex-born boxing enthusiast said he had now "paid the price with my job."

"I have worked every day of my life since I left college, I have never been in any trouble. Now I have to start from the beginning again and I loved my job," he added...

The Metropolitan Police is continuing to investigate and has recorded it as 'common assault', although Mr Whitty has declined to make a formal complaint.

Mr Hughes said that he had been told by police that they wouldnt not take any further action.

Would people on an anti-vax demo really want a selfie with Professor Chris Witty to show their mum? Glad the Independent got in that Hughes loves boxing., that's really relevant to the story.

ASFTSN

Of course he was an estate agent.

EDIT: Did they give this loon enough interview space?? I know more about him than some of my own family after reading those short excerpts.

Psybro

Also confusing how an estate agent in Romford apparently voted in Uxbridge.

jobotic

Very surprised to read that this man was a Tory voter.

buttgammon

Imagine being a 24 year old Tory. Desolation.

jobotic

Imagine being a 24 year old estate agent and NOT being a Tory.

Missed the bit about him being an estate agent. There we have it, worst person ever.

ASFTSN

When did we get to the non-apology being standard? Is it a lawyer thing? This wasn't "I'm sorry if Whitty was offended" but it's pretty close. Why can't people just say "I was completely hammered and it's no excuse, but I'm sorry I did this. It must have been horrible for him. People shouldn't do stuff like this."

WELL HE DIDN'T SAY GET OFF ME
