There is a video on lots of news outlets of Chris Whitty being 'manhandled' by two absolute bell ends in St James Park. What the fuck is it with these tossers?

Before leaving Malvern, a month before he turned 18, Whitty's father was shot dead in a terrorist attack in Greece. Ken Whitty, then director of the British Council in Athens, was killed by a gunman as he drove home with work colleagues, one of whom also died in the shooting. The murders were claimed by the Revolutionary Organisation of Socialist Muslims, an international terrorist organisation set up by Sabri al-Banna, better known by his nom de guerre Abu Nidal. The attacker apparently mistook Ken Whitty for an MI6 officer he bought a car from.

A man has apologised over footage which appears to show England's chief medical officer, Prof Chris Whitty, being accosted in a park.

Lewis Hughes, from Romford, told the Sun he was sorry for "any upset I caused".

The video shows two men laughing and jeering as they grab hold of Prof Whitty, who struggles to free himself.

The Met Police are investigating the footage, which the force said happened in St James's Park in London on Sunday.

Mr Hughes, a 24-year-old estate agent, told the newspaper he had lost his job following the incident.

"If I made [Prof Whitty] feel uncomfortable, which it does look like I did, then I am sorry to him for that," he said.

His friend Jonathan Chew, 24, said: "We just wanted a selfie."

If you just wanted a selfie, wouldn't you just ask rather than grab hold of someone and try and stop them from freeing themselves?

Mr Hughes said he has lost his job at Caplan Estate Agents as a result of the incident, and revealed that the pair had been on an anti-vax demonstration when they spotted the Chief Medical Officer...

"I absolutely apologise for any upset I caused. If I made him feel uncomfortable, which it does look like I did, then I am sorry to him for that," he said. "He is quite a timid, shy person and I think that is why he didn't say, "Get off me". If he had said that and I had realised how he felt, I wouldn't have put my arm round him."

Mr Hughes insisted he "just wanted a selfie" to show to his mum and insisted there was "no malicious intent". He admitted drinking with his friend before the incident but said he felt "led down by Boris" following the Prime Minister's condemnation, after voting for him in the last election.

The Essex-born boxing enthusiast said he had now "paid the price with my job."

"I have worked every day of my life since I left college, I have never been in any trouble. Now I have to start from the beginning again and I loved my job," he added...

The Metropolitan Police is continuing to investigate and has recorded it as 'common assault', although Mr Whitty has declined to make a formal complaint.

Mr Hughes said that he had been told by police that they wouldnt not take any further action.

When did we get to the non-apology being standard? Is it a lawyer thing? This wasn't "I'm sorry if Whitty was offended" but it's pretty close. Why can't people just say "I was completely hammered and it's no excuse, but I'm sorry I did this. It must have been horrible for him. People shouldn't do stuff like this."
