I love James Brown's live stuff. Got a few albums of that.
But what of actual albums. Are there any absolute corkers.

Other than the compilations and best ofs which litter the place, are there any actual albums that anyone can recommend.
Thats it really.

Anyone?

James Brown In The Jungle Groove is a good collection of his 1969-71 stuff. Funkier than a mosquito's tweeter, as 'they' say.

Lt Plonker

My recommendation is to not piss in his toilet without his permission. He doesn't like that at all.

Other than that, I'm stumped. Sorry.

It's hard to go wrong with most of his '63 to '74 output.
A few of my favourites are:
It's A Mother
There It Is
The Payback
Hell
Black Caesar.

Big album discog. here

My introduction was the excellent up tempo and oh so tight band for the live album:

Live at the Apollo

Used to be two seperate albums vols 1 and 2, recorded around 1964. Amazing stuff, demonstrates just how un-funky most of whitey's music really was around that time.
