What about its identikit follow-up 'Take My Advice' ("hey, lemme tellya something... this song is the same as the last one").

I always preferred Cece Peniston's 'We Got A Love Thang' to be honest.

The Mumbler

I'd also like to nominate a Kim Wilde single, namely 1981's Water on Glass.  Every time I think of that summer's holiday in Snowdonia, I think of that record.  (I would say it was the other way round, except how often do you hear Water On Glass?).

Oh, I liked that one as well!  Much better than Finally.

Falco - 'Rock me Amadeus'

Stan Ridgeway - 'Camouflage'

Godzilla Bankrolls

Dance The Night Away - The Mavericks.

"Anything more than two chords and it's jazz" - Lou Reed

Quote from: "WoodenTooth"Falco - 'Rock me Amadeus'

Stan Ridgeway - 'Camouflage'

Good call both of those. Had forgotten about Camouflage...a very very bizarre song:

"Whoa Camouflage, things are never quite the way they seem
Whoa Camouflage, I was awfully glad to see this big marine"

Anyway, Cameo: "Word Up"

Ambient Sheep

"Rock Me Baby" - George McCrae.
"Money" - The Flying Lizards
"5.7.0.5." - City Boy
"Airport" - The Motors.

That'll do for starters.

foxprorawks

"867-5309" - Tommy Tutone
"You've Got The Power" - Win
"We Have A Dream" - Scotland World Cup Squad 1982
"Another Girl Another Planet" - The Only Ones
And pretty much any BA Robertson hit.

Ciarán2

Salad "Drink The Elixir"
Jigsaw "Sky High"
Dollar "Mirror Mirror"

"The Drummer Man" - Tonight

"Oh Lori" - Alessi

dan dirty ape

"Oh Sheila" by Ready for the World
"Spanish Stroll" by Mink DeVille

NOTE TO P2P UPLOADERS: The former is not by Prince and the latter is not by Lou Reed.

Oh, and "Boss" by Brassy, which was a hit if you count 'played on Mark Radcliffe a couple of times'.

Quote from: "Labian Quest"Paula Cole 'Where have all the cowboys gone?'

Mmm... Paula Cole...  Best remembered for a couple of singles from her second album.  Such a shame her first album 'Harbinger' never got the attention it deserved.

Anyway, in answer to the above question:  Paula recorded a fourth album, which is currently sitting in a record company vault, never to be released.  She took time off to have a child and plans on recording a new album sometime.  It's unknown whether it'll include all new material, or some songs left over from the sessions for the fourth album.

Personally, I'm not holding my breath for Paula to be back any time soon, but hey - if Kate Bush can return after more than a decade away, anything's possible.

My votes for largely forgotten hit singles go to:
Fiction Factory - Feels Like Heaven
Jane Wiedlin - Rush Hour  (not forgotten as such, but not heard much these days)...

Hairy Chin

A large number of these actually crop up every so often on the station I work for - which is why I both like and occassionally dislike it. Sometimes it's "Blimey, not heard this in a while, great!" but now and then it's "This became a forgotten song for a reason..."

Emergency Lalla Ward Ten

Grimly Fiendish by The Damned

Listen to Your Father by Feargal Sharkey

What You're Proposin' by Status Quo
