Reading about Prefab Sprout, I saw that "I Trawl The Megahertz" was included in Mojo's top 50 "most out there" albums in 2005. The first one of these I've not heard is no.21, "College Tour" by Patty Waters (which was on ESP-Disk), but there's plenty of bangers on there.

Do you have a favourite old list by some magazine or site, which got you into new and interesting things?

I don't know if you're aware of this site

It collects every list it can find to make a ranked overall list. If you look in the forums, you can find links or postings of the original lists.

The lists that really helped me were back in the 90s when the NME published a top 50 albums of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Really got me started on lots of artists.

This list from 1985 had a massive influence on my music-buying habits for many years

For me, MOJO mag did a few informative essential lists in the 1990s. Weird records, holy grails and underrated soundtracks etc. I discovered the incredible album, The Peddlers London Suite (1972) existed for a start.

Fuck knows how to source them lists tonight.
