So what's going on here then? Is this a legitimate protest against a dictatorship over the lack of food and medicine or is this just the CIA and American imperialism working to undermine the revolution in one of the last bastions of socialism? Or is the reality more nuanced and complicated?

Either way, nothing like this has happened in Cuba for a long time, so I am following it with interest.

Plus you have got to laugh at how Argentinians celebrating a football result is being shared as 'Cubans protesting'.

Alls I know is that the CIA are a benevolent and righteous institution that are interested only in procuring freedoms around the world.

Like everything, my money's on this.

Quoteso I am following it with interest.

Same. It's going to be interesting/entertaining to see the mental gymnastics being performed by certain commentators.

I mean this is what the US embargo is supposed to accomplish.  Whether it's all astroturf or genuine or a combination probably doesn't make that much of a differencs.

Obama sort of thawed the relations a bit and reestablished diplomatic ties and the embassy and such. Then Legend Castro dies and the orange cunt comes in and now I guess it's back to normal? Fuck knows what they are doing in Cuba.

The same commentators from papers like the Graun and the NYT, whose coverage of the Bolivian coup was an utter travesty.

This is a useful timeline of events which covers the complexities of grassroots campaigns for greater freedom interacting with the involvement of the US government and the former elite who fled to Miami: https://twitter.com/ConioMeng/status/1414643806293614594.

Thanks a lot, that's very interesting, particularly the role played by musicians.

For some reason, a lot of Cubans seem to be carrying Egyptian flags at the protests.

There can't be protests in Cuba, there's and embargo on everything, including protests.
