Blinder Data

I've barely read her stuff but she seemed funny on Twitter. had no idea about her condition.

just bloody sad to die so young

RIP

Bernice

One of the good ones who'll be sadly missed.

idunnosomename

oh they posted a story about it

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jul/15/tributes-paid-writer-dawn-foster-died

QuoteShe wrote for the Guardian's comment pages on housing and social justice issues.
before you fucking cut her loose you cowards

Egyptian Feast

Very sad news. One of the few journalists on Twitter I could be bothered with. RIP.

dr beat

Lean Out is a great read, I strongly recommend it.

RIP Dawn.

sevendaughters

Dawn used to post over on the Angst forum for a long time before she was a columnist and a lot of the current forum were still tight with her. Huge loss.

Thought this was good:
QuoteAnd to any of her former colleagues in The Guardian paying tribute who didn't say anything when it mattered: we see you.

Doomy Dwyer

There was never any doubt with Dawn. A lot of these fuckers, it's just a matter of when the wind will change. She had the kind of genuineness you can't fake.

dissolute ocelot

Guido Fawkes ran an "exclusive" a while ago about how Dawn Foster never read the Guardian. Another reason to mourn her. Sigh.

pigamus

Fucking awful. And can we ditch the thread title, it's not funny.

Enzo

It's a huge loss to principled journalism and Dawn always came across as a good laugh as well. Terrible news.

I think I saw that in passing, didn't it include a soundbyte from a radio interview or something. Exclusive indeed.

idunnosomename

I thought about whether to do the obvious pun title but I thought if anyone would've wanted to continue our rich tradition, it would be her, also it's markedly more poetic than most of our efforts.

it's not funny no, but then not all puns need to be

Dawn Lost her

IsavedLatin

I was winded by this news. Always on the side of the angels in any given online fracas, and often extremely funny -- she just seemed a great bunch of lads.

Even Grimey took it upon himself to have kind words:
https://twitter.com/darrengrimes_/status/1415712430882271237

I'm sure she'd find it amusing that her obituary is completely sandwiched by posts of him very seriously refuting #craftywank allegations.

Ham Bap

Was a shock seeing this yesterday. Took my breath away. 7 years younger than me. Absolute no age at all.
Probably like a lot of people I followed her work and Twitter, seeing her health issues in and out of hospital.
Will be a genuine miss.

Milo

Friend of hers got Limmy to bring his 'charity do' tweets out of retirement for her.

https://twitter.com/DaftLimmy/status/1415828312904114182

Found that really touching.

MoreauVasz

Fucking hell... so utterly awful.

RIP Dawn.

Consignia

Very sad hear of her passing, especially so young. One of the good ones, and will miss her writing.

Good see Grimesy fit in a crafty tribute there.

Oh that's wonderful. The last time I saw her she'd done her Q&A at the Lighthouse bookshop in Embra and was talking about popping over to Glasgow for that very gig and really looking forward to it. This is exactly what she would have wanted. Really made me smile, that :)

Dogs Trust Freedom Project is a dog fostering service for people fleeing domestic abuse and going into refuge.
QuoteMany refuges are not in a position to accept pets so in many cases people experiencing domestic abuse are unable to leave their home until they know there is somewhere safe for their dog.

Thanks for that. Love dogs and that's a lovely idea, have made a contribution.

can we just appreciate this tremendous tweet:
https://www.twitter.com/DawnHFoster/status/1190319192194605056

also the garun got her age wrong in their news piece (34 instead of 33). i mean so did I, but I'm not a major newspaper that used to employ her (also i corrected it and they still havent)

GoblinAhFuckScary

just learned of this. i'm deeply saddened and extend my sympathies to the cab members that knew her xxx

idunnosomename

this family memorial fundraiser has blown it out the water. extra goes to her charities. bung a bit in if you feel up for it.
https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-bench-in-memory-of-dawn-foster

so confused how old she was though. this tweet would imply she was 33.

Her birthday was in September, so presumably she was very nearly 34.
