I'm sure a proper video will come out, but it looks like Crobs has gone down the same route Loach did when addressing young labour:
QuoteCorbyn tells Young Labour event in last leadership election Starmer "promised unity, but instead we are given division.

"We were promised ten pledges - and where are they? We were promised effective opposition, but instead the Tories have been given a free pass time & again"

https://twitter.com/ashcowburn/status/1441858021181829121

I imagine there's some real frantic pacing in akehurst hq as to why the young team keep listening to these old bastards.

Buelligan

Owen Jones asks why anyone would criticise Johnson as a liar whose lies undermine democracy if they tolerate Starmer's dishonesty.

Keir Starmer's betrayal of his promises is an attack on democracy.

You either care about honesty and democracy, or you don't.

If I sound angry here, well, I am.

Tell me what it is then? One single, concrete priority that's doable on day one of taking power, that they can all agree on being the top priority.

Sorry, I have no idea what you're going on about. Can you put this in the context of pigamus's post? Here it is for convenience:

If people are such melts as to leave because of nothing much more than a hissy fat, why would you want them in the party anyway? Shouldn't you be saying good riddance? Fuck off and join the Lib Dems?

lipsink

When I saw the David Evans result and the Corbyn heckles to be honest it made me regret leaving the Party.

This video showing the following few seconds after the heckles is even better:

They are just awful

QuoteA senior shadow cabinet member said: "It is has been a very, very, very bad start. The problem is that they just don't listen to advice. Why did they try to introduce these rule changes at all and why did they then do so before checking first that they could land them? It really is unbelievable."

Buelligan

Wouldn't it be more useful if a senior shadow cabinet member stood up to be counted?  This leader of the people chooses to sit quietly giving the proles a bit of hope and guarding their own career, what use is that to anyone?  It just serves to keep up the facade that some of them are thinking about never hitting us again.

thugler

Unite votes key to the rule changes passing or not apparently. They've been told to abstain, but hopefully some will vote against.

I posted sonething like that BTL on The Guardian site, without the swearing or mention of Rayner. Deleted in two minutes.

No masks, no social distancing, a crowded room...why didn't Labour do the right thing and mandate masks at conference for those not medically exempt? Or have smaller limits on attendance for those events in small rooms.

Could even have found an alternate venue that had an outside area where marquees could have been placed. OK, not as safe as completely open air but I would not want to be attending an event full of maskless people in close proximity at the moment.

Labour should have held their 2021 conference online, given how high cases are at the moment, but that wouldn't have got the headlines.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

We are supposed to leave ex-posters in the past which I agree with, but what about sex pests who still read this forum even after being banned and tweet screenshots of this thread? Is there nothing to be done about that?

What about the McCarthyite bullshit a few months ago when he or someone similar got someone suspended from Labour over some idle chat on here?

Could we perhaps unsticky this thread and move discussion into individual events, or if we are keeping the thread, move access to invite only or something (not sure if that's possible?)

Kieth being 'mobbed' at a fringe event:

Actual footage of the 'mobbing':

https://twitter.com/REWearmouth/status/1441854255216869378
Basically a majority of reporters, security and a few of his colleagues, around three plebs meeting him and some people hanging out in the same general area of the room but with no seeming interest in Keith.

That's not mobbing, this is -

As we all know, I could go on...

Quote

The whole fuel/food/energy crisis would be a perfect opportunity for a Labour leader to put forward the ideas of public ownership and question whether dog-eat-dog capitalism was really that great if all these disasters keep happening under it, but of course Kier goes on Marr to reassure the public that he absolutely won't be bringing energy companies into public ownership (despite the idea being popular, and promising to do so in his leadership pledges) whilst Rachel Reeves doubles down by appearing in the Times touting the new fiscally responsible Labour to appease those who almost certainly won't vote Labour but like to be reassured that there's no threat from them.

Buelligan

It's almost as if Labour sees it's job as making sure nothing can ever change that would make life better for people who don't control the world.

olliebean

He's so rubbish. Everything he said on Marr came across as not wanting to say anything he can't pretend he didn't say later. He goes on national television and essentially wriggles out of a promise he made in his leadership campaign by saying, "aah, no you see, I didn't use that particular word; this one thing that everyone knows means the same as this other thing actually means something else that I'm not really willing to explain at the moment." Everyone who saw that will know how much his promises are worth when it comes to his general election campaign.

Can't stop laughing how he flinches when turns to the screen and sees one of his ten pledges there

"Ahhh! How did that get there!"

Reading that Leah Levane, co-chair of Jewish Voice For Labour was thrown out of conference and expelled from Labour.

According to JVL she stated that the Party has been cynically abusing anti-semitism to make Labour a socialist free zone.

JVL explicitly stands for the protection of the weak against the greed and abuse of the powerful.

The ⁦@UKLabour⁩ leader is doing the rounds of regional events. he has a copy of his new workers' rights document with him He says he doesnt want to come the conference as Leader of the Opposition again(cue nervous shuffling in the audience) -then adds he wants to come as PM

New thread title - Keith Starmer: "I want to come as PM"

I think the way Starmer treats younger labour groups is a signifier of the contempt he would have for other members/groups if he could get away with it. It's a bit like that Tony Benn quote about refugees.

idunnosomename

Was just going to post that.

Any wonder no one mobs him. He will only listen to focus groups and donors.

peanutbutter

I wonder how much he's kneecapped himself with all the soft relaunches, I bet there's even shit in that big bland essay that's gonna be totally the opposite of whatever election manifesto he goes with. It's kinda bizarre that a man so utterly terrified of stating anything resembling a policy has left such a massive trail of bullshit behind him in a tiny political career.

Now think about how that scene would've played out when we had a leader that gave a shit about other people.
