The Times reports:

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/420-per-visor-the-price-of-ministers-ppe-panic-08m26r3pl

QuoteA former Conservative councillor received a £120 million government contract for face shields whose quality is so doubtful that fewer than 1 in 400 have been used, meaning each one has so far cost the equivalent of £423.

Steve Dechan, 53, is the owner of Platform-14, a Gloucestershire firm that had specialised in devices for managing chronic pain. It recorded significant losses in the year before the pandemic.

In April last year, however, his offer to supply personal protective equipment (PPE) from China was fast-tracked through the "VIP" procurement lane. The government then invoked emergency rules to directly award him a series of contracts...

If only the government had ensured there were sufficient stocks of PPE should it be needed in a situation like a pandemic in the years before COVID, then this would have been far less likely to happen. It's not like visors expire after a certain number of years.

Steve's now sold his home in Stroud and has a big house in the country.

He and his enablers should be jailed.

I really don't understand this. Can the government not claim back all the money spent on defective goods? In any other situation a refund would be the legal minimum, but no-one, not even the Good Law Project, is even talking about it with these billions. Finding the silence very very odd.

Wow, I can't imagine how this has happened.

Thought from thread title this must be a misspelling of "visa". But yeah these twats need binning ASAP

They might just be really good visors?

EDIT: Hang on, didn't read the thread. They definitely weren't really good visors then?
