I still remember seeing him in the Larry Sanders Show and just being blown away by him. I just thought, "fuck me, this guy's presence and charisma is absolutely unreal" - there's something remarkably watchable about him. He just sells the hell out of a comedy line like few others, it's crazy.

Stumbled into his appearance on Jon Favreau's "Dinner For Five" many years ago, and that was well worth a watch; can vaguely remember Odenkirk telling many fascinating tales about Hollywood.

He plays Stevie Grant as the perfect prick, he's so fucking good in that. I think that may have been the first place I saw him, back when BBC2 were showing Larry Sanders (and when Channel 4 should have been showing Mr Show if they hadn't turned to shit) and even amongst all the talent on that show, he stood out.

Ans he's a great straight man there, still really funny just by being fairly normal, while everyone else fucks about. The clips on this thread really underline how much range he actually has.

One of my favourite understated Bob performances is Porno Gil on Curb Your Enthusiasm. It's such a brilliant "straight" role that he plays gloriously, and it's made even better when we see one of his tapes at the end of the episode and it's completely absurd and hilarious.

Just watched S1E2 of Mr. Show this evening and fucking hell Bob is on fire throughout. His Senator Tankerbell character is excellent, but best of all is the travelling salesman sketch at the end. You really don't think anything can top the wild theatrics of David Cross and Jack Black going hell for leather (pants), but Bob comes out as the hated milk machine, sings absolutely dreadfully and steals the fucking show. It's glorious. Beaming from ear to ear throughout the whole thing.

Not much to add other than complete agreement. The silly school play-like atmosphere of that sketch is hilarious in itself, but it's always the hated milk machine that reduces me to hysterics.

I love the very end of the episode with that disturbing reveal too.
