I made the mistake of (sympathetically) replying to Owen Jones on Twitter. I muted the post quite quickly once the replies started to come in because I have better things to do - but I didn't fully turn them off - but my partner has been keeping an eye on them and they're deranged. One theme is people parroting the stuff Linehan and his ilk say, including other cis men having a pop at me for being a man who doesn't listen to women and I've even been called 'beard' (which at least is factually accurate, though I'm not sure why I'd be insulted by someone calling me that when I'm chosen to have one for the last six years). It's really bizarre that anyone would bother combing through the replies on a massive Twitter thread to insult anyone who's not a terf. How do they have so much time on their hands?

Mumsnet has a thread in the feminism forum defending the woman who called the police on a black man because he told her to leash her dog, and who made a point that he was black when she called them. They find the word 'Karen' far more offensive than the n-word. I'm not surprised there's an overlap between TERFs and the far right, even though the far right don't tend to like feminists.

I'm a gender Ph.D and can absolutely confirm that TERFs don't really speak for anybody. Part of the reason they make a big stink about it publicly is that nobody in academia or activism is listening to them.

I'm just finishing up a doctorate (in literature, admittedly) and have only ever met one terf in academia; I didn't realise she was one at the time and she's not in gender studies or anything like that thankfully. Obviously the damage these people do is the main reason I'm opposed to them, but it's also worth pointing out that terfdom is an intellectually spurious area that's based on arguments that don't hold up to the slightest bit of scrutiny.

Like I said, Mumsnet is notoriously racist as well as transphobic. There's a thread in the black subforum which refers to a white woman as 'Karen', because that was what the original article called her. She was harassing a black woman in Victoria's Secret and trying to attack her, but the black woman filmed it and when the white woman realised she was being filmed, she rolled around on the floor screaming like Neymar when he's been tackled and played the victim. And the usual defensive white women came into the thread and moaned about how 'Karen' is misogynistic and that the white woman could have been autistic or mentally ill. No sympathy for the black woman, who was filming out of self-preservation - in case nobody believed the white woman was harassing her - or who could have been mentally ill herself, and if a black woman had screamed and rolled around on the floor, she'd have been arrested. Or worse. I actually recognised one of the names - she's a regular BMN space invader[nb]If you're wondering why I hung out in BMN despite being white, it's because it was one of the more interesting subforums, it wasn't obsessed with trans people and there was some pushback against the racism/overuse of 'woke' as an insult on MN. It's kind of ironic that the 'DON'T CALL ME KAREN YOU MISOGYNIST' brigade are the same ones who call everyone they don't like 'woke'.[/nb]. She likes to talk about how she doesn't believe in intersectionality.

And of course they're defending Amy Cooper and saying that the man she called the police on was threatening to rape her (he wasn't) and that she was right to be frightened of him. This quote from BMN sums Mumsnet feminists up:
