Mumsnet has a thread in the feminism forum defending the woman who called the police on a black man because he told her to leash her dog, and who made a point that he was black when she called them. They find the word 'Karen' far more offensive than the n-word. I'm not surprised there's an overlap between TERFs and the far right, even though the far right don't tend to like feminists.

There was a thread about a thread (TAAT) in the Black Mumsnet sub recently about a large thread in AIBU regarding the Karen meme. The thread in BM was correctly discussing how the meme was originated amongst black people to describe a certain type of privileged white women's attitude to black people (especially service workers).

Someone was soon in there to tell them that they were wrong (citing a coincidental thread that a guy had posted on Reddit back in 2013 regarding his divorce as the origin) and also how black women were awful for using the name as it was a term to shut down women speaking and therfore anti feminist.

As you know, I take the gender debate very seriously. I really will do anything to make it a part of mainstream discourse because the stakes could not be higher. We're talking about the mental and physical health of an entire generation of young people. Their fate is the substance of a long-overdue national conversation and I believe the only reason we have not had it so far is because of the little value that is placed on women's rights.

If the BBC were fit for purpose, this would be the crucial ongoing discussion of our time, perhaps only superseded as an issue by climate change.

Is the extinction of the human race due to us polluting the atmosphere and collapsing our fragile biosphere a bigger issue than someone putting their pronouns in their email signature? perhaps.
