New Order (Michel Franco, 2020)

Mexican dystopian thriller set in the near future where rioting breaks out and the military seize the opportunity to instigate a coup.

Lots of negative reviews for this that seem to entirely miss the point (they seem to conflate the protesters with the military coup for some reason, and also seem to think that because the film begins with a bunch of rich people that it's automatically "on their side" somehow).

Anyway I thought it was brilliant - heavy, dark and cynical for sure, but that's what it was going for and absolutely succeeds. Really well-made, too.
