Presumably that's indirectly how he came to guest on Toast of London

He's big mates with Matt Berry which resulted in an absolutely interminable performance on Adam Buxton's podcast when he turned up halfway through and proceeded to spout nothing but awful pseudo-philosophical claptrap in an attempt to come across as some sort of rock and roll Plato.

BeardFaceMan

Yeah Matt Berry ended up being on the last Desert Sessions album. Homme is a big comedy guy anyway, he's been on Comedy Bang Bang too, both TV and podcast. He's always come across as having a nasty streak but he always hid it well behind humour. What a cunt.

Also the event in video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfZm32tpWY8

An audience of cunts too. I can fairly confidently say that back when I was that kid's age, if lead singer had behaved like that at a supposedly alternative gig, they'd have been deluged with bottles.

JaDanketies

fuck anyone that ever throws a bottle in such a way as to potentially hit a sentient being. Very rarely see it outside of the UK.

Apart from Reading, not really.

A bottle was thrown at Harry Styles during a concert with One Direction in September 2015, hitting him in the groin.[55] [Homer Simpson]The Ball! His Groin! It works on so many levels![/Homer Simpson]

A vodka bottle was thrown at Toots Hibbert during a performance at the River Rock Festival in Richmond, Virginia on May 18, 2013.[50] The 71-year-old musician suffered a concussion and the wound required six staples.

'kin hell...

Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

There was also the time some bloke jumped onstage and started dancing around, to which Homme responded by shoving him into the photographer's pit. I don't think the bloke was injured, but he easily could have been.

I think that was the first thing I saw that made me think he was a bit of an arsehole. There was a time that I might have defended such "rockstar behaviour" as being somehow culturally important, as if the only alternative is corporatised blandness. Bollocks to that, though.

The Mollusk

Wow that video sucks. "I'm never too sick to fight", especially when it's a teenager and two security guards are holding him in place while you boot him. What a big strong cool guy.

Nah, if it's someone being a cunt like that, they've earned a bottling.

That crowd were cheering his cuntitude. They deserved that pub down the road's glass recycling bin dropped on them from a helicopter.

Not to come across like a fan-girl defending him, but reading through the court documents she seems to be completely fucking mental herself (BPD, anti-vax, sincerely believes in astrology, etc.). Also brought her kids on holiday against the custody agreement with her new boyfriend when she had suspected COVID symptoms, and ended up spreading it to them (The new boyfriends name is Gunner Foxx and she posted a picture on IG of him wearing a confederate flag hat, great taste in men, her.). The restraining order was thrown out by the court and Child Services too, but that headline wouldn't get as many clicks, would it? Maybe wishful thinking but I'm more inclined to believe this is a case of parental alienation than anything else.

I don't know anything about this guy and he may well be a total cunt, but there seems to be a lot of allegations and counter-allegations going on here and the judge seems to be in the best position to decide what's currently the best situation for the children.

Kankurette

Oh Christ. And to think he kicked Oliveri out of his band for beating up his girlfriend.

Yeah that's fair enough. Two absolute fucking wands instead of one then!

maybe we can just go back to liking The Distillers and QOTSA in the knowledge that they're bellends and think no more on the matter. I mean they might have sang some good songs about drugs and rockin out, or urban alienation and depression, but afaik neither of them ever said they were socialist

that court document certainly makes Brody Dalle sound like the worst parental alienator, pulling them out of school and disappearing. Also makes my hopes of a new Distillers album look misplaced. Also makes Josh Homme seem like a dad who wants to see his kids

edit: damn either Josh Homme has got the greatest imagination ever or Brody Dalle is a terrible person. Really liked her back in the day

Yeah, I'm happy to write this off as "they're both fucked up people going through a messy divorce - none of my business". I just feel bad for the kids having all their intimate information/medical details out there now. This shit should've stayed private but here we are.

Apart from your last post being "she's an awful person and is probably lying about all of this", you mean?

I don't think the abuse allegations are true but he's obviously no angel, that was my point.

Icehaven

I thought he was OK until I heard his Adam Buxton podcast and thought he just came across as a bit of a swaggering bellend. I mean fair doos it can help to have a bit of that about you when you're a frontman but it's bollocks to carry it over into real life too much.

Love QOTSA, love Buckles but this was the only episode I ever turned off without finishing. Came across as such a boring, pompous cunt.

That list is incomplete: if you have the Led Zeppelin live DVD, one of the Easter Eggs is footage of the crowd at Knebworth - and people are hoying plastic bottles in that - presumably to soak people nearer the stage in piss, rather than in an attempt to brain a member of the support act.

The first time I went to Reading (1989) security were cutting the tops off people's massive bottles of cider, to prevent their subsequent use as missiles. And stewards at football still remove the caps from the bottle of coke you might have with you.

Kankurette

If 50 Cent at Reading is anything to go by, it hasn't worked. People were yeeting everything they could find at him.

iamcoop

Someone threw a wheelchair at Daphne and Celeste when they played Reading. A booking that was as pathetic as it was unfair from the organisers.

I also remember the singer from Panic at the Disco getting knocked clean out by a bottle about ten seconds into their set, it's a vivid memory as my girlfriend at the time loved them and was absolutely distraught.
