Best ever Bond tunes

The No Time To Die thread got me thinking about my favourite Bond music. I think, with a few notorious exceptions, the Bond series has some of the most consistently high quality music in cinema. Here's a few of my favourites, perhaps you lot would like to add to it?

Bond 77

Space March (Capsule in Space)

007

A View To A Kill (John Barry instrumental version, not Duran Duran although that is also a cracker)

You Only Live Twice (instrumental) - so good he pretty much used it again for Midnight Cowboy

Great, although I prefer this version where it's combined with OHMSS

As far as actual theme songs go, "You Only Live Twice" is my favourite. "The Living Daylights" and "A View to a Kill" probably my 2nd and 3rd.

Beat me to it, by far the best JB march.

For a change of pace, the Propellerheads OHMSS is an absolute banger:

I'm not sure why but I love 'All Time High' from Octopussy - it's probably the sweeping John Barry strings contained in a catchy pop number.

I also really rate 'You Know My Name' from Casino Royale

Love the creepiness of 'Mr Wint and Mr Kidd' from Diamonds Are Forever: https://youtu.be/qMYFr-ZmIR4

Some of The Living Daylights is great too: https://youtu.be/fEwkcIJkgf8

The Man With the Golden Gun is sick as fuck but christ I wish it wasn't Lulu singing it.

Shirley 'She doesn't have the range" Bassey's efforts are always good I reckon, they're what I think of when I think of a
Bond song. I'd go so far to say Goldfinger almost gives me shivers.

I love Goldeneye which is probably low down on everyone's list.

Live and Let Die and View to a Kill are great too. As is Carly Simon's Nobody Does it Better, just for the Alan Partridge rendition.

Johnny Textface

Licence to Kill is crap. She clearly sings "Licence to Kilt", once you hear it, you can't unhear it.

Yes, came here to post this. And well done if you said 'Chris Cornell' at home.

Yes! Always loved this. I bought that David Arnold 007 album on the strength of it. Not a bad album, actually. Jarvis's All Time High is great too.

I think this is my favourite Bond tune. I didn't know there was an AP version, despite being a rabid AP fan. Will look that up. (EDIT: ah, of course, it's the 'stop getting Bond wrong' scene in IAP2)

The Radiohead version is even better than the original if you ask me:

Speaking of Radiohead, the song they wrote for Spectre has got to be the one of the best Bond theme songs never used:

Yeah, Radiohead's 'Spectre' is bloody great and even works really well with the opening titles they ended up using for the film:

Nobody Does It Better is a great song, but not the greatest Bond theme. The "spy who loved me" line feels properly jammed in there. I wonder if it was specifically written for the film or if it was repurposed from something the songwriter(s) had lying around.

Goldeneye is a banger, does everything a Bond theme should, and Tina Turner's probably the best non-Shirley Bassey Shirley Bassey they could've found. I had absolutely no idea it was written by Bono/The Edge until recently, which has unfairly deflated it in my estimations, but it's still very good. I love The Man With The Golden Gun as well, Lulu or no.

I think the last one I remember liking was The World Is Not Enough. I'd take that over any of the Craig-era songs, though I expect that isn't a very popular choice. I actively dislike Adele's one for Skyfall, even though I think that's among the most well-received. The Billie Eilish one is very dull, the Cornell one is passable but I'd never listen to it on its own, barely remember the Quantum and SPECTRE ones.

I don't even mind Lulu that much, but that brass is is awesome, very close to my top theme.

mothman

OK so that's three films which have alternate themes which they should have used instead (and could conceivably have done so): Spectre (Radiohead); Tomorrow Never Dies (kd lang), and Quantum Of Solace (er, Adam Buxton). Any others? As far as I know Johnny Mathis never actually recorded Moonraker...

I've watched this on several occasions now, and the fact they didn't go with this song gets worse every time.

Not that it makes any difference but this video went a step further, cutting the Sam Smith credit from the sequence and inserting Radiohead instead. I briefly considered trying to watch the whole movie with this seamlessly cut in, but fuck that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4mIWoLg69Y

Everyone know the best ever Bond theme is A Lot's Gonna Change by Weyes Blood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vvmNes4Hbg.

Holy shit, I had no idea this existed!

I can't think of anything less appropriate, it seems like a joke. It's as if someone thought "Americans like that Rawhide theme song don't they, why don't we just do one of those".

non capisco

Yeah, that Johnny Cash one is laugh out loud shite. The Tom Jones one they used is no great shakes, mind you. "He always runs while others walk." Ooh, best not mess with him, then. Licence to jog.

colacentral

The best Bond theme is Moonraker but no one ever mentions it. Listen to it again, both the original version and the disco version they use for the end credits. It's stunning.

"You may have thwarted my plans this time, Bond, but I'll still make my escape using my speed-walking technique!"
"I wouldn't be so sure of that Blofeld."

Dionne Warwick's Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was on my old 30th Anniversary cassette compilation, but doesn't seem to have transitioned to any non-limited CD release.

The original Never Say Never Again is a better theme in that it isn't that weird stop-start style of the Lani Hall recording.

The Shirley Bassey version is on the second CD to the 50th Anniversary Edition of the same compilation, which also has tracks by The Pretenders (The Living Daylights), kd lang (Tomorrow Never Dies) and Scott Walker (The World Is Not Enough)

Dusty Springfield's The Look of Love is lovely, especially in the remake she made for Phillips a few months later.
