As you can probably tell from the title, the CD I received today was simply titled "CaB Mix" and was anonymous. It's in a DVD style box with a white cover saying "CaB Mix" on one side and a tracklisting on the other. The CD-R also has a fascinating swirly pattern on it. Where do you get CD-Rs like that? I want one!

I enjoyed listening to it but 22 songs (blimey, imagine if that had been the title of the notorious music based porn film) is a lot to take in with and comment on with just one listen, so I'm going to give it another listen soon to allow it all to sink in and let my thoughts take form.

An initial thought though: track 19 is Friday I'm In Love by The Cure. My experience of this being mainly through music channels and as background music in shops, I'd thought I didn't like it. Now listening to it properly I find I was wrong, it's actually very good.

Track 1: Mogwai - Hunted By A Freak
I know nothing about Mogwai but I liked this track. It had a kind of ambitiously atmospheric sound to it and I like that sort of thing.

Track 2: Death Cab for Cutie - The Sound of Settling
Quite a catchy little song. I normally find singing like the singing on this a bit annoying but I enjoyed it in this. It's short, which is good. Sometimes you don't want songs to drag on for ages (that's why I didn't put a 10 minute Genesis song on my compilation!), you just want something lively and quick which this is.

Track 3: Ash - Uncle Pat
I've never been much of an Ash fan and this song hasn't really done anything to change my mind. I'm sorry to say I don't think I've actually managed to make it to the end of this song without skipping to the next track.

Track 4: Radiohead - Banana Co
I really like this. What album is it off? I've got a mixed relationship with Radiohead, they're a band I want to like and I have really enjoyed some of their stuff but I can't quite be bothered to get into them and some of their stuff just turns me right off. I think maybe this is the best way for me to experience them, in isolated songs I really enjoy. What a philistine I am!

Track 5: Turin Brakes - Last Clown
Turin Brakes is a name I've been aware of and have heard people say good stuff about, but I've never really heard anything by them (or at least I haven't been aware of hearing anything by them). This isn't the kind of thing I'd have picked to listen to if left to myself, but it's a good'un and I'm glad to have been exposed to it. I like the outro bit too.

Track 6: Hole - Doll Parts
Celebrity Skin being the only Hole song I know, and Courtney Love being so derided, I was glad to see this on the track list because I wanted to see what it would be like. It's alright, I certainly wouldn't say it's a bad song but it didn't really catch my imagination or make me particularly excited.

Track 7: Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy (Pappy Mix)
I like a bit of Aphex Twin, and Come To Daddy is an excellent song. Nuff said.

Track 8: Idlewild - Idea Track
I liked this, it's got some very nice bits in it and it had a good atmosphere.

Track 9: Interpol - Obstacle 2
The lyrics seem a bit clever but the song didn't really do much for me I suppose. It's not the kind of stuff I'm into.

I'm going to leave it there for the moment and do the rest later. It goes up to track 22 you know!
