PC Updated and all bookmarks and files gone - HELP!

I know very little about computers so I may sound a bit dim or confused. I have a PC that default uses Microsoft Edge but I always use Chrome. It was sluggish this morning and I shut it down and restarted. Now, all the bookmarks I had have gone (and I really need some of those for work) and my photos and videos of my son from when he was born, and music and films which I'd kept in 'downloads'. What can I do? Can I do that thing where you go back to next week or whatever? If so will the update to my PC then not take place or will it happen again soon?

Ah, found all the files in my drive and moved them back to where they were.

Any idea how to restore the previous favourites/ bookmarks?

Thanks.

I've tried that and it hasn't helped, unfortunately. I've managed to find the videos and photos quite easily after a an hour's panic but can't find the bookmarks or favourites anywhere. Guess I could gradually build them up again but it will take quite a long time and I won't ever remeber some of them.

I've looked online for solutions and one suggests going to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default and changing the names of the bookmark files. I've tried that but it's not giving me a rename option when I right click. Now I've got the photos etc back, I'm not sure if it would be worth going to my last save point; would this undo the latest update too?

If I go through my drive and look under my files under user name, there's a 'Favorites' file there but it's empty.

Tried going in to bookmark manager and importing but no joy there either.

Will it be complicated due to Edge and Chrome both being on the same PC? As I said, I know fuck all about this kind of thing.

Doesn't matter. Switched it off and back on again and all fine now. Weird.

There are separate folders like 'Downloads', 'Documents' etc. for each user - might the files seem to have disappeared after you inadvertently logged in as a different user?

Might want to consider setting up syncing bookmarks etc. in whatever browser you use, as a form of backup if nothing else.
