Did you use or remember the special Remainer voting machine from 2019 that magically told all its users not to vote Labour even though their stated policy was to re-run the referendum?

Captain Z

We don't know we'll be voting at all in 2024 yet.

Conservatives have won every time with a large majority in my constituency since records began (1950), maybe this year they won't.

I'd rather not vote Labour, but being in Richard Burgon's constituency I do want to give him my support and keep him in post.

I quite like that idea but even better would be a variation of that which I call "vote for the other guy".  So basically you vote for whoever came in 2nd place last time. Yes in some cases that would mean voting for a Tory.

The aim: the day after election day every one of them would be out of a job.

Sure, there are probably a few good ones, but this is no time for nuances. Flush the lot away and start afresh.

Why would the 2nd place crew be any better? It's a similar argument to when football fans say 'drop them all and put the kids in'. As hard as it is to imagine, things can get worse and MPs can get even more incompetent and corrupt.

Brass Moustache

Whoever is most likely at the time to beat the DUP and TUV.

No chance in hell I'll vote Labour after what they did to Corbyn and the Left. What message does it send if they destroy all of that, then the Left help vote them in at the next general election? They'll win without our support anyway, so fuck them, the evil cunts.

Since I'd never vote Lib Dem either, the only real option for me is either Green of spoilt ballot. I don't love the Greens these days, but it seems that, strategically, they're the best way to vote if you want to send a message to Labour. Greens don't always stand here though, so I suspect I'll have no choice but to spoil my ballot - which doesn't really tell anyone anything useful, but does my conscience more good than simply not voting.

I was about to say that happily I'd be unable to vote due to the 15 year rule but thought I'd check first and, well shit, looks like I can't get out of it that easily. I wonder how much of an effect this will have. I'll bet 90% of Brit expats will vote Tory

Icehaven

Probably no one because I'm a poll clerk so I'd have to get a postal vote sorted, and I'm not that organised.

The best outcome here—maybe just plausible—is a hung parliament, so that the venal pursuits of vested interests ends up in tension with themselves. Then if there are some left-of-centre votes to be counted, or anyone, frankly, who abhors the corruption, they could actually make a difference.

So yeah: if you can get someone in who isn't Tory or Red Tory, then you should do it. I might actually go door-knocking with the fucking Greens at some point, just because they're they've got the largest voter base of the parties that think genocide is bad. There are several Labour MPs I would still vote for: Zara, Diane, Clive (though it would pain me) ... etc. Probably under 10 tbh.

All of which is scraping the fucking barrel.

Zetetic

I'm not sure I can bring myself to participate this time around.

Might see what the Plaid candidate is like, and if they seem personally tolerable.

How do you know? I thought they didn't recruit until nearer the time? Whenever that is.

No longer has the Party whip.  If she stands in the next election, presumably it will be as an Independent.

Three, in that case. Corbyn, Abbott, Webb. Last one is a bit cray, maybe, but these are people you could actually trust.

I'm in a safe Plaid Cymru area so am happy to vote for them again. Although there are some boundary changes coming up so I'm not sure if that will affect things.

I'm in no way interested in any sort of nationalism so those areas generally don't interest me but PC generally fit in with some other areas and seem more progressive than most. Plus the current MP has been pretty good and when I've sent letters have been quick with replies and have been supportive (very supportive of Trans issues for example). Plus she's the cousin of one of my favourite British artists which I just think is cool in a degrees of  separation way.

I've done it for years, and I've never not been asked. Usually get an email a month or so beforehand.

Pranet

Saw a thing that wondered if some people will be reluctant to man the  voting booths this time because they don't want the hassle of turning away people without photo ID.

Yep I've definitely had that thought and considered doing the count instead (as it's usually one or the other with general elections due to timing etc.) Depends which pays more.

Senior Baiano

Disappointed my epic bants idea to sabotage the poll to give an implausibly high conservative vote didn't take hold tbh

I assumed she'd had the whip returned. All this over a clumsy letter to a newspaper barely anyone reads.

They'll pick some lackey in Hackney to stand for the safe seat I assume. The morally repugnant Paul Mason will no doubt have his eye on it and cooked up some tenuous link to the area to base his campaign on.

thenoise

Out here in bog-brain Devon, Tory candidate is a beloved local man (some fat farming cunt), so not a lot of point voting whatever novelty characters Lab or LibDem send along. They'll be commuters and/or grockles who can't trace their family back multiple generations in the same village, so instinctively distrusted by all.

I'll probably hold my nose and vote labour, though. What else can I do?

They wouldn't be better. It's just a method of firing every last one of them and starting with a new set.  Maybe it sends them a message 'don't fuck it up this time'.

Jerrykeshton

Middle England floating voter I used to work with politicians of all stripes and was never very impressed with any of them.

Labour, by a whisker from not bothering at all.

greencalx

My seat has only ever been held by Labour or the Conservatives, with the Liberals offering a challenge up to the disastrous 2010 coalition with the Tories, and the SNP enjoying a surge post Indyref. Right now it's a safe Labour seat with the SNP a distant second and the Tories deluding themselves they have a shot.

The sitting MP is a Starmerite. I could look past this in '17 and '19 on account of the fact that, despite not being aligned with my politics, the MP does do a good job of representing the constituency and dealing with things that matter to local people, and the party leadership was more to my taste. I'm not sure one out of three is sufficient to retain my support at the ballot box... but who else is there? There is no way on earth I'd ever vote Tory. The LibDems have lost their way. Notwithstanding the odd impressive performance from individual candidates, on the whole the SNP are the most venal opportunists in politics and it would take a lot to convince me to support them. Sometimes the socialist stands and gets about 100 votes.

Cock and balls on the paper then, perhaps?
