Ah that's a shame, I thought the first cabin ep (with special guest Christopher Walken) was one of the best for ages. Had me chuckling away in public like a big old crazy man.

Old Nehamkin

Stav has announced that he's filmed his first comedy special and it'll be out soon, which is nice to hear. I'm assuming it'll just be on youtube or something rather than a network or streaming site where he'd maybe be liable for a Seth Simons-ing, but who knows.

Fry

Thats great news. I always think of Stav idly asking whether a young prince's whipping boy would get "any of the prince's run-off pussy" as consolation for being whipped, to no response. Never fails to makes me laugh.

stephenjwz

further fidance today. fun as of 10 minutes in.

spaghetamine

Every episode with Ian is a banger, I take back everything I said on the last page

Schnapple

Can't believe how hard I laughed at Nick's impression of Sam Elliot selling "gay son insurance" and his subsequent response as Tucker Carlson.

Old Nehamkin

Reading on twitter that Nick did a surprise guest spot at Adam's tour date in Chicago last night and also that some audience member tried to rush the stage while he was performing and was then arrested. Anyway, nice to hear he's got the stand-up bug again.

Damn - Stav's really getting ready to leave the show :(

I've got to echo how much Nick's Tucker Carlson impression made me laugh on (I think it was) 'owning the chuds'. I hoped that someone would have done a Youtube best of by now, but not yet.

Nowhere Man

That was a nice little low key episode with just Nick and Adam after Nick's "mini heart attack". I do hope he looks after himself though because fucking hell

Nick sounded quite down for the first half but he did seem to perk up a tiny bit towards the end

Dr Rock

Nick's Tucker Carlson impression is my favorite thing ever.

The latest bonus was a good time. babka. The guest host and Nick had some quite sparky energy, I thought. Maybe the best I've heard him bounce off anyone other than Stav (I feel like Ian is much closer to the Adam role). I was surprised it was their first meeting. The guy's slightly adversarial, unawed attitude to Nick seemed to get some good stuff out of him. Or maybe it's just the heart attack...

After this, I looked up the other guy's podcast. I don't know if it was the ep I happened on or what, but it felt like such a painful facsimile of Cum Town. Not that it was bad necessarily, maybe just surprising to hear the influence so strongly. Maybe that accounted for the (very) edge of hostility between him and Nick.

No mention of where Stav was. Feels increasingly frequent for them not to record around his dates now...

Nick's doing standup again and claiming the podcast is ending on instagram atm

Pleased to find my assumption you were talking about Caleb from Podcast About List was correct. He's really funny, I like him.

amputeeporn

I honestly think if the reason the show's ending (what's sounded like a joke before is getting more and more serious) is because Stav wants out, they could easily slide that Caleb guy in and carry on.

Stav is hammering his insta with stand-up clips and crowd work, which feels like the start of trying to put some kind of buffer between him and the perceived toxicity of the show.

MrsWarboysLover

I enjoyed his appearance too, he seemed to just fit right in instantly and be on the same wavelength.

Stav has his good points, but I certainly don't listen to the show for him (and my patience for his antics, ironically, is wearing thin). It's all about Nick, and as long as he has decent people to bounce off I'll listen. I think you're probably right that he's the one pushing to leave, he probably wants a career. I think at this point Nick genuinely would be unemployable because of the show, in any kind of position at all, so I hope if Stav bails he does replace him.

Ian would be fun as a replacement, but I wonder if there's such a thing as too much Ian.
Spoiler alert
Ian playing the curb theme was one of the biggest laughs the show has given me though

If they ended the podcast tomorrow I'd be a little bummed but would mostly feel happy for them finding the willpower to walk away from something hugely successful that has apparently become an unenjoyable obligation to them (or at least for Nick and Stav). As crazy as it is for me to imagine feeling so oppressed by making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year riffing with my mates into a microphone for two hours per week, I guess the guys feel the show has become a sort of trap that's holding them back from doing more creatively fulfilling stuff and that's fair enough I guess. I just can't really be arsed with the passive-aggressive moaning (mostly from Stav) that's filling up the episodes more and more these days.

I do think it's been a bit disappointing how they haven't really taken the opportunity to fuck around with the format more through the years. I used to like it in the earlier episodes when they would put a bit more effort in and actually do pre-prepared bits and high-concept stuff now and then. Or even stuff like a few years ago where they interviewed Bam Margera at that comedy club and ended up discovering Gene DiNapoli as well as kicking off the whole saga with Vinny. I feel like they could have done a bit more of that kind of thing where they've left their comfort zone a bit and sort of gone out into the world instead of just sitting in Nick's apartment watching cable tv or whatever. Just feel like they could've been a bit more ambitious with the show after it became such a hit and maybe not ended up in such a rut.  I mean the format's so loose, you could do anything at all with it, really.

amputeeporn

While I think that Stav's the concrete reason it's probably coming to an end - ultimately the root of it is with Nick. It's crazy that a podcast with such a wide (and weird) appeal hasn't toured widely or really flexed its advertising/guest-booking muscle. They still don't even have an official twitter or insta account or (I think) even a Youtube one, after all these years. It's apparently the 55th most popular comedy podcast on Apple, and all of that on word of mouth.

As you say, with very little thought, there's all kinds of ways they could keep things fresh - clearly Stav wants to do more, and Adam would be along for the ride, but Nick, I guess, is what he is. I can see why it would be hard showing up there every week, wondering which guy you're gonna get. And if you're someone who wants to be a professional touring stand-up/personality, it's probably not ideal to be sitting NEXT to the undisputed creative force, rather than being it yourself.

As much as I want to see a real hour from Nick, I think the podcast has proved it's his perfect medium.

The Mollusk

Stuff on his insta today made me laugh

amputeeporn

After listening to the new ep (302), I wonder if I'm off base on Stav shutting stuff down. Seems like Nick might just be switching back on in a big way - funny stuff on his insta (finally a 'to camera' rendition of Tucker Carlson), and going on an almost old school tear on this ep. Plus new live dates. Great to see, hope it continues.

AllisonSays

I've not listened to the podcast in ages but found the 10 minute standup set from Nick that just popped up both funny and weirdly moving!

Adam has been great lately, (probably because he's the only one who doesn't want it to end, I imagine) actually really enjoyed "The Adam Show" episodes. If it does end he should talk Fidance into doing a pod.

amputeeporn

Agreed on the Adam show. It was great that everyone had the feeling of the grown-ups all being away, which was rammed home by Ian asking if he could smoke inside Adam's apartment, every five seconds. Extra great that Adam turned out to be a good time once he got going, and especially funny when venting about Nick.

The show apparently ending has brought some nice tension to the chat (Stav openly saying to Nick, when Adam was out of the room, 'in fact, if starting next week, you guys wanna do this, just you and Adam, you let me know.'), as well as some genuine reminiscence about the early days, ha, as well as Nick's sincere wish of what his next job could be.

I watched Stav's special the other night. I was pretty wasted, but it was at least interesting, if a little stilted and familiar in places. For a first special, it was okay-good, although playing a lot safer than you might expect. I found it interesting that neither Adam or Nick or Cum Town were in the lengthy acknowledgments list.

The writing's been on the wall for a while now but I genuinely am a bit sad. Cum Town has made me laugh harder than almost anything in the last few years and Stav is an integral part of the chemistry that makes it work.

Looks like he dreamed to imagine and it finally worked.

Chollis

damn.

least they have Stavbot
