Trump doesn't have the delivery of a stand-up, he has the delivery of someone with Alzheimer's.

What he does have, is catchphrases. As long as he says 'Lock her up', 'Stop the steal' and 'Fake News' a few times, the crowd lap it up. You can see the look of total bemusement on their faces when he is trying out new material and it doesn't land, like when he would bang on about how toilets don't work and you have to flush them 15 times. There is definitely the occasional moment when the audience is asking themselves 'what the fuck is this guy talking about?' But then he does a catchphrase and it's all fine again.

Is it possible for a standup to be introverted? Ditto actors, live musicians etc? It's the very definition of "Look at me!" A career for pathologically extroverted people. As you say, Kitson is possessed with extreme self-confidence. Odd that anyone would consider him introverted. Sensitive, thoughtful, sure. Introverted, nah.

It's really another character, though. If you believe in the material, want to express something and you put in some practice, it's surprisingly easy to compartmentalise an audience. If they react favourably, all the better. Having done some very minor stuff myself, it's actually not too hard to gather confidence, or at least appear to, for a set period on stage. Plenty of comedians, musicians etc are introverted and shy.

Rowan Atkinson springs to mind, but I'm sure there's plenty more.

I do the ol' standdybobs, and I've no urge to demand 'look at me!' once my 20 minutes are up. Often I crawl in, perform/achieve (not sure myself) vast onstage confidence, and then crawl home.

I'm an severe introvert, and a show-off cunt. I could easily cope with standup, if I had the talent. I wouldn't be able to do audience banter, and hecklers would fuck me right up.

Yeah, some people don't really understand what being introverted means. It doesn't mean you're necessarily shy or quiet. It means that social interaction exhausts you. Extroverts on the other hand are energised by social interaction.

I'm a sort of introvert-extrovert. I enjoy social interaction a lot but it drains my batteries very quickly and I often feel a euphoric sense of relief when it's time to leave the social situation.

Edit: I'm not 100% sure that these definitions are accurate. I've done no research.

There are plenty of irl introverted performers (it's very easy to speak at someone compared to speaking to them) but I very much doubt Kitson is one. He's full of stories about socialising and checking in on people.
