On the subject of these threads... I think they definitely have a place and I think are important.

It was either the last thread or the one before that there was a bunch of posters talking about how embarrassed they were at their earlier posts and how much they had changed. For all the comedy, a place like this disecting the insanity on the other side can help people learn.

I'm all for the topic focusing on Glinner but encompassing others as well. As funny as Linehan's desolation is it is important to remember there are others like him that are better at presenting themselves but think the same bollocks.

It's just nice to have a trans-friendly place that makes fun of the TERFs as sad as that may sound. It's often been a case where TERFs are personally attacking trans people and the response is talking about what they say. A place that unapologetically laughs at TERFs is useful.

Besides there's just so much going on with Glinner and his ilk people need to be able to keep up.

My 2 cents:

Keep the thread, anyone who doesnt want to read it can hit ignore.  Move it into General Bullshit and keep the self policing happening (leave his wife and kids out of it, spoiler anything nasty, no brigading/antagonising him on Getter).  Anyone who is suffering adverse effects is advised to take a Glinnerbreak.

Not so sure about merging it with JKR thread, as that one has a lot of discussion about her books.  I agree that any trans stuff should be kept to this thread, not to pigeonhole it, but CaB is first and foremost a comedy site, after all.

The kiwifarms comparison is valid and the posters should be aware of the harm it can do.  Keep it light, keep the Gary Glinner parodies coming.  Let's make some laughs out this shithole he's put himself in.

My sincere apologies to those who found CaB nasty and offensive in the past, particularly if it was a failing on my part as a moderator.  I don't put up with as much shit these days from tossers, and I don't have that kind of "free speech at any cost" mentality anymore because of the rise of the alt-right and such.  TBH I've also had issues with CaB myself over the years, in terms of seeing ex-posters making such accusations, or calling it sexist etc, and I would always get really upset at the idea. It was difficult at times cause you defensively think, "well I'm a good person, these are good people - are we really that bad?" but then you have to move directly to: "Are we missing something here and do we need to improve?" So we've addressed those things together as a community. 

I think CaB has moved with the times and become a nicer and more compassionate place, which I'm thrilled about.  I'm also touched to know that trans people now find this a more welcoming place to spend time on, and that we seem to be helping and offering solace in some small way.  Thank you so much for that.  I've been disgusted to watch all this, and knew it would become a more pressing issue over the past year or two. 

This has been an education for me also; just yesterday or the day before I was wanting to dig out sophie's post explaining "AFAB/AMAB" for instance, because I couldn't quite remember the details.

People have always been super focused on which subforum the threads reside in, and I usually evade that.  I like the threads in CC because GB can be a bit more prickly and get bogged down in interpersonal bickering at times.  I also just like having them in CC for visibility - I feel it's an easy way for me to support the trans community, and to keep the discussion, support and relentless piss-taking featured prominently.  Again, the threads aren't all about Linehan and haven't been for ages, but I think there should be some central focus on his actions and decline, particularly now that he's even managing to alienate his core audience of bigots.  It's fine for CC to talk about former comedy writers and their attempts to use their comedy fame to inculcate hatred and bigotry, I'm sorry if you disagree.

There's a tampermonkey extension knocking about for hiding CaB threads, please do use that if you find these threads addictive or upsetting or whatever.  I know I have to take time off from them myself on occasion.

We've said many a time in the last few pages that while there are places and people who've backslid into hate speech (evidenced by the company Green Lantern finds himself in over on gettr) that generally people are becoming more accepting and understanding and I think that's what we see here on CaB. I would suggest being less upset at how this place was perceived in the past and be proud of where it's at, and where it's going, in the present.

I think a cis woman was beaten by a trans man who hasn't started HRT and so can't compete in the men's event. Glinner initially assumed it was a trans woman I think and then doubled down to ignore the fact they weren't taking testosterone
