90s light hearted British sex show on a cable channel ID

Shit Good Nose

Presented by a woman with short blond hair (although I seem to remember she grew it out in later series) and had segments including sex toy reviews, bad sex video reviews, position of the week (modelled by some massive bloke called George who looked like he was in his mid 50s, and a tiny young woman who was, so-say, his girlfriend) and usually finished with a routine by a stripper.

I think it was shown on UK Living (before it became Sky Living).  It was a bit like The Good Sex Guide with Margi Clarke, but stripped (no pun intended) of all those serious talking head interjections with scientists and psychologists and replaced with people just dicking around (again, no pun intended) for an hour or so.

Anyone remember what it was called?

It was rather unimaginatively titled The Sex Show, and was presented by Helen Gibson (who was also the executive producer):

It was made by Live! TV between 1996 and 1998, before later being repeated on UK Living after Live! went bankrupt. She was stalked by some nutter from Newcastle and understandably decided to reduce her profile afterwards.

In the words of the great Roy Walker - it's good, but it's not right.  Nope, not the one - I remember The Sex Show very well and it DEFINITELY was not that.  The one I'm thinking of was never on Live!, and it wasn't anywhere near as amateurish.  Also, the presenter in question was, being factual, older and definitely not Helen Gibson.  I seem to remember her weight fluctuated greatly between series as well, although I can't remember if it was a Sarah Benny type pregnancy continuity nightmare situation, or just general weight gain and loss.

The Sex Show's strip teases were generally females who also appeared in porn and on Television X at the time, whereas the one I'm thinking of featured both male and female strippers who were more party/stag/hen hire.

What was the gutter trash clip show on Channel 5 in the late 90s that showed pervy, violent and "funny" bits from B movies, interspersed with a woman in racy outfits robotically reading out links in front of a blue-screen?

BlodwynPig

I think Helen Gibson was a newsreader on Look North before this?

Something with Emily Booth?

The Sex Files? that was made by Thames for UK Living in 1996 and repeated for years afterwards. A lot of the same production staff and on-camera experts from The Sex Show worked on it.  Presented by Dr. Pam Spurr:

She's now the Sun's sex advice columnist, LBC's agony aunt and has regualrly appeared on shows like Loose Women, and Big Brother.

Could you wank to it though, that's all that mattered back then.

Anyone not wanking is a wanker

So many desperate clandestine wanks in my parents' kitchen watching this.

Kitchen?!

Yes. I couldn't do it in the living room as getting caught would be way too easy. That didn't stop me getting very very nearly caught anyway.

This is a bit like when someone wanted to identify a late-night discussion programme set in a restaurant, and as we went along it transpired that there were about 28 of them.

Ha, yeah.

The one I'm thinking of was by far the best of those that were on at the time, cos all the others were either really amateurish (the Live! one), really serious and chin stroking, or just plain dull.

This one was almost unique, at least amongst British shows, in having a very relaxed attitude about it all and everyone's just having a laugh.

God, we really still hate sex in this country don't we.

I was called the Porn King at school because I was the only one who got Live TV in my bedroom. All those live darts and erotic thrillers.

Could you. And did you. Wank. To. It?

I didn't and couldn't, mainly because it was all a laugh - I watched it cos it was quite an entertaining show, and the bad sex video (which were mostly British made very-soft-porn) reviews were great.  I seem to remember they had guest reviewers including the likes of Roland Rivron and James Brown (the magazine one, not the singing one), although I could be getting confused with another show on that point - searching his IMDB credits comes up empty.

If you had it on mute and didn't mind Big George getting in the way, you could probably have spaffed one off to his petite "girlfriend" when they were demonstrating the positions, but other than that it wasn't really wanking material.  Even taking into account the stripteases, you would have got FAR more fuel from the TVX freeviews from the same time.

The only other one I can find from UK Living around that time is The Erogenous Zone, but there is nothing about it on the internet other than references in old TV listings and a mention on a streaker's website of all the TV shows he had been interviewed by.

Shit Good Nose

It wasn't definitely on UK Living, but it would have been a similar low budget cable channel if not.

Around that time, the only choices would have been UK Living, Bravo (which showed Sexcetera) or LiveTV, which was covered above. After seeing the name of the show, I can virtually remember the titles for The Erogenous Zone, and I think it may have been the one with the video reviews and George (in his posing pouch) and his partner (who looked a bit like Debbie McGee I seem to recall?) in the 'position of the week' segment. it was definitely more towards the Eurotrash end of the spectrum than a serious sex ed show.

That's the bunny!  So was that The Erogenous Zone then?  Name doesn't ring any bells at all.

I can't be 100% sure due to the scant evidence, but seeing that streaker was interviewed on it rang a bell about it being like a lower budget Eurotrash. I definitely remember the video reviews and the models doing the position of the week thing though.

Aaah The Erogenous Zone, I'm sure that is it. It was never wankable but I'd still turn it on in hope sometimes. Only to be faced with Roland Fucking Rivron.

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I met big George a few times! Nice fellow actually. Bizarrely, he worked in the IT support department of the company I was working for about 20 years ago. The first time I saw him, he seemed familiar somehow, but it didn't dawn on me for weeks until a colleague said to me "I've just realised that it's the bloke from that late night telly programme who does position of the week with his missus". I did hear a rumour that he had been a "proper" porn actor as well but I don't know if that's true. I wonder what he's up to these days.

Emily Booth and Anneka Svenska in dramatic tour de force Threesome on L!ve TV is possibly (probably) the best television programme ever made.

Strong agree. Excellent plotlines.
