Ours is still going ahead. Our team is based all over the country so they're all getting the train down to London for it. I'm out, I had an excuse anyway.

I've been ill for a month with other diseases, one of which I caught at another work event at which we were all pinged because one of the attendees had Covid.

I dunno man, has so much changed in a year that employers are pressuring their home working staff to all catch trains and come together to get drunk? It seems insane to me.

Blinder Data

Ours is next week. Small team gathering in a pub should be fine, but then we have tickets to a bash at a casino.

Festive disco desolation

I barely leave the house now so I'm actually looking forward to it. A few drinks are not worth catching COVID for, obviously, but it's Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiistmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas

Cuellar

Ours also going ahead, I said I'd go but only because I was confident it would be cancelled at the last minute. Still might be I suppose.

In my mind this was going to be one of the tests of how the country had 'recovered' from Covid, whether or not office christmas parties went ahead. Now, however, I realise how bad that is as a measure because we're just going to pretend that Covid is over even when it isn't.

LORD BAD VIBE

No parties happening at any of our sites.

I don't mind - I never go to them anyway.

Technically have two planned, but they're both small team dozen and a half, and a half-dozen) events, meal and few drinks after. Get on well with everyone so it's not an issue in itself. No idea yet whether they'll go ahead.

Big Mclargehuge

Ours got cancelled this week (was due to take place in a week and a halfs time) due to the varient. I wasnt going anyway after explaining to my team that I've barely been going out for stuff I actually NEED because of the rona and almost certainly couldnt take sitting in a tightly packed room with between 30 and 60 people with no masks, poor ventilation and questionable hygine. It was going to be a 6 hour event, with 4 hours being a broader department meeting and 3 hours being a party so I was somewhat relieved I wasnt walking into a plague pit.

That being said they've now moved it into being an online event. which...will no doubt be about as fun as a 4 hour online party can be...

Ours was cancelled last week. We're all getting a £100 bonus instead so fucking get in.

DrGreggles

We were offered 3 different dates and 2 different venues from HR, who were organising it.
On 2 of the dates I'd be unavailable and 1 of the venues would be tricky for me to get back from.
So I responded with "It would depend on the date and venue, so I'll confirm one way or another when they've been decided."
They replied with "I'll just put you down as a 'no' then, if you're going to be awkward"!
Miserable cow.

I've since confirmed my attendance and won't be going.

I reckon if you gave that choice to all employees there'd be no christmas parties ever.

I've got a meal with my immediate team next week. All of us are fully vaxxed and we all talk openly about about mask wearing and testing etc. (as in, we all do it) and I get on with them well, so it'll be nice, hopefully. I'm not sure I'd be happy going if I knew there was someone in our midst who had questionable views about any of that - not that I'd have been going into the office at all if I knew that I'd be sharing a desk with an unvaxxed anti-masker.

The bigger department do (which was more of a fancy 'til late party thing the week after) has been cancelled, understandably. I've actually quite missed grossly humiliating myself on the company's dollar, though there's talk of doing it next Spring instead if it's safe to do so (covid-wise - letting me near an open bar will never be safe).

wooders1978

We're getting a hamper apparently - a low quality one I suspect

photocopying your arse to superspread via faecal coliforms 👍👍👍👍

They've cancelled the kid's party (under 12's), the free bar Christmas party has been replaced with "festive fun with your teams"*

*your chosen event will be funded by the company upto an agreed limit

Plenty of Downing Street staff wishing they did right now.

We had ours on the last Friday of November. I was unprepared for how small the room was for the amount of people there but I was 3 pints down by the time I got there. I had two dinners because the person next to me didn't show up. There was a free bar and, after a while, I managed to shake down the sales people for coke. I don't remember getting home but I apparently left at approx 11pm. I spent the weekend expecting to be sacked on Monday morning. I didn't get sacked.

Stoneage Dinosaurs

Nowt for us, but we didn't do one in 2019 either cause they couldn't be arsed. Our department is going for a big lunch at Beefeater which to be honest feels like an upgrade from the usual party experience

Assuming it's only a matter of time before ours is cancelled, but it's only a week away. Come on, pull the plug!

I'd actually forgotten that I was due to go 'to the darts' on the same day, so I need to pull out of the office party ANYWAY, and then I can pull out of 'the darts' because frankly sitting in a room full of pissed legends gary in Ally Pally a week before christmas proper seems like the absolute pinnacle of stupidity.

Cuellar

Plug has been pulled - maybe next year, they say.

Yeah right!!!

dissolute ocelot

Ours was cancelled today (Scotland, 30ish people, 17 Dec). Like about a third of the office, I'd already said I wasn't going because it's excruciating even without the risk of disease and they've stopped leaving unopened bottles of wine lying around. Except it's not "here's £50 cancelled" it's "postponed until it's safe". Which may mean next December.

Tell them forcibly but politely, that Christmas will definitely be happening next year.

I've not heard anything about ours yet, but I assume it's going to be called off, what with omicron and plan B. Quite saddening if so - I would give the evening pub crawl a miss, but the daytime bit is good fun and doesn't involve the general public.

mothman

My team's one (about a half dozen of us) is likely going ahead. We all voted to proceed. The other party (just over a dozen), I may pull out of, haven't decided yet. Management are letting parties go ahead if there's a risk assessment signed by a senior manager.

Quite; Huxleys' experience of getting a £100 bung upon cancellation of his party caused me to emit a hollow laugh. Chance'd be a fine thing.

Mine was called off and the individual teams will be given money to "Do something in the new year". The original plan was a free-bar bash in a hotel function room, but that was called off even before the variant because not enough people said yes to it (!) Fair enough.
