Just a quick heads up that S. Lee will be this week's guest on James O'brien's Full Disclosure podcast.

If he says "I don't even know what a podcast is" again, I'm officially calling it as a running gag.

Unless this is going to be an hour of Lee literally putting the boots to O'Brien, I will avoid.

Regardless of whether you like his radio show, he's a good interviewer and these podcasts tend to be pretty decent if you like the person being interviewed.

Magnum Valentino

I agree. He's also a longtime fan of Lee and Herring who didn't mind quoting old semi-obscure stuff when Rich was on which would amuse me to no end if he tried it with Stew.

Stew arrogantly recommended O'Brien's radio show with 5 stars in his latest email, so it's not likely.

I know, it's like he hasn't even done the most basic research.

In what imaginary UK is Stew Lee a centrist?

Why? It might be interesting?

I guess this is like the Iannucci thing tho, where you aren't allowed to like anything James O'Brien does because he didn't support Corbyn?

Genuine question, cause I'm baffled by the responses here.

sutin

Well I find it hard to enjoy any work by anyone who stuck the boot into Corbyn in 2019, and i'm sure many others on here feel the same.

jobotic

People are allowed to like things that James O'Brien does but we're also allowed to not do so aren't we?

Although like the half-assed hypocrite I am I'll not listen to it but I will look forward to reading about it on here.

Yes, hate whoever you want.

I can't speak for anyone else but I actually do think that people are allowed to like things done by either Armando Iannucci or James O'Brien if they want. Seems fine, really. Go for it. I do think that a lot of folk with left-wing politics are a bit tired of being smeared and slandered by patronising liberals with cushy media gigs so that's probably why people here are a bit wary about listening to this particular conversation. Stewart Lee is a great stand-up and that's unlikely to change any time soon, but everything he's signalled about his politics over the last few years seems utterly turgid and myopic to me.

Midas

not saying people aren't allowed to enjoy sculptures made by nonces but i don't want to see them in a public space and the same goes for james o'brien

I will. I don't hate people who don't support Corbyn though. Just not got any time for people like O'Brien who talk about those of us who do as if we're idiotic children who need to grow up.

The Mollusk

Is there more detail to this O'Brien hate that people can supply? I don't listen to his show so don't really know anything about him, but my dad loves him so I'd like to make our fractured relationship even more awkward by having ammo to lay into one of his current heroes whenever he next mentions it.

edit - maybe this'll be good, you never know

www.corbandbyned.co.uk, that's what they call this place these days, eh? EH!?!

Thursday

There's been a broader pattern of attacking leftists, so it's more than just Corbyn, but I couldn't go through recalling specific incidents, because I tuned him out years ago.

You could bring up that he voted Boris Johnson for mayor.

Goldentony

London is full of fucking complete idiots who so frequently do and say stupid things that by saying and doing nothing of worth for years now James O'Brien has ascended to the top of them all.

somersetchris

It is absolutely baffling, and one of the most annoying things about this forum, that with much of the world veering to the right and genuine fascists getting close to power, so many of you seem to save most of your hatred for liberals who are not left wing enoughh for you, like you would rather see Jacob Rees Mogg in charge than Keir Starmer. You're like a load of deluded, self-important students who cannot accept that socialists will never be in charge no matter how many tantrums you throw. And part of it is the fault of people who keep throwing stones at their own fucking side.
