Songs that just have ALL the fucking guitars

This bastard is just awash with guitars, brute force smash you in the face power chords before the chorus, fantastic 12 string sounding jangle during the chorus itself, lovely textured jangle and harmonic sounding stuff all the way through.

Famous one this. Untold multitracks of guitars throughout plus a solo that makes any guitarist of a certain age want to do a sex wee.

Schlippy

I thought it was Mayonaise that had the umpteen guitars multitracked off Siamese Dream?

Love the multitude of guitar goings-on in this one, and how it basically collapses under it's own weight at the end there.

Not the most multi-layered track ever, but fuck me if the section from 2:20 to 10:10 isn't just straight-up guitar porn.

I think most of Siamese Dream has tons of overdubs on it. Soma has 40. I'm changing my entry to Thru the Eyes of Ruby which has 70 supposedly.

Glenn Branca rolls up sleeves and enters thread.

ASFTSN

Here Come The Warm Jets sounds like its got about a jillion tracks of the bastards.

Who's that proggy guy who had an orchestra made up of DOZENS of Ovation bowl-backs?

Schlippy

Fucked Up ran with three guitarists for a good long while, used to go hog wild with the layering in the studio. Bit more restrained these days but pretty much every track on David Comes to Life is slathered with guitars:

Same with Built To Spill's Keep It Like a Secret, Doug plays with a 3-piece band these days and it's wild how good these songs still sound even stripped to the bone:

GoblinAhFuckScary

saw Hey Colossus yonks ago and they had like eight guitars. it was a bit like YEESh boys chill ooouuut

Schlippy

Speaking of Hey Colossus, Joe Thompson recommended this album at the weekend and it's an absolute stonker. Sounds like it should be a contender for this thread despite SLIFT being a 3-piece, it sounds absolutely massive.

of course it was Robert Fripp and the League of Crafty Guitarists, balds and beards all paying several hundred quid to learn Fripp's mental guitar tuning and play brilliantly pedantic music

Schlippy

Ben Folds covering The Postal Service with a "guitorchestra" made up of the audience playing along:

17 fucking years ago, God's cock I remember that gig, nearly two fucking decades ago? Bastard.

Spiteface

@Nice Relaxing Poo beat me to bringing up the Smashing Pumpkins. Damn you, Poo!

Kevin Shields has at times claimed that there's no more guitar tracks on MBV songs than on yer average White Stripes recording.

He also said during one of them Twitter Listening Parties for Loveless that he only used one distortion pedal on Loveless - a Vox MKIII Tonebender.

I've seen pics of his pedalboard when MBV started playing again in 2008. I think he's a cock-shitting liar there.

Lol. I expect he'd have said it was a Bad Monkey these days.

You can do a fair amount straight through the desk(s), to be fair, the bass tone on Nirvana's Breed doesn't use any dirt in front of the amp and that's plenty filthy.

Yeah but now he's changed it to "a good few hundred"

Hum - Isle of the Cheetah

But pretty much any Hum song will do.

Listen to Hum, they were good.
