Does anyone involved with England test cricket ever sit down and wonder why this KEEPS HAPPENING ALL THE FUCKING TIME?

Inspector Norse

Thursday

This is very reassuring.

gilbertharding

It's alright lads - we'll stroll the second half.

sevendaughters

FUCKING HELL I WENT TO THE SHOP AT 42/4 THINKING THAT WAS IT

This is very reassuring.

The reason I like cricket more than foopball is that everyone who cares thinks it's brilliant when England are shit. It's almost as good when they're shit as when they're brilliant.

iamcoop

I just went for a shit at 42/4 and returned at 42/6. Incredible stuff.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Hahaha, Woakes gone

This is hilarious if only in its utter inevitability.

Joe Root, the king of the PR foot in mouth moment. 'Riding the wave', indeed. Welcome to the bottom of the ocean you knobhead.

Thursday

As a cricket casual, it never stops being baffling. How come we mostly avoid this kind of collapse when there is a much bigger time pressure?

FORTY THREE PALTRY RUNS FOR SEVEN BASTARD WICKETS

TIM MURTAGH NOW HAS THE FIRST EVER NEGATIVE BOWLING AVERAGE

gilbertharding

Obviously this is hilarious. I only hope the Australians are taking notes.

Murtagh with figures of 7.2 overs 2 maidens, 5 for 11 runs. I'm howling.

- In ODI cricket there is less swing and seam movement and flatter wickets making it easier to bat on
- After the first 10 overs teams aim to keep a lid on the run rate rather than go aggressive for wickets, making it less likely a wicket will be scored
- Field restrictions in ODI cricket tend to relieve the pressure on the batsmen
- Bowlers fear our batsmen in ODI cricket and fear produces bad performances

That said, this is a particularly extreme example

Why is this happening?

Inspector Norse

All the goodwill from that World Cup win evaporated in the space of 75 minutes.

Bairstow and Moeen should never be allowed near a red ball ever again.

Dial M For Murtagh will be tricky on his home deck, I fancy.

SHUT UP YOU CVNT

Why is this happening?

Because England think they can play the same way in tests as ODIs then get baffled when they miss or edge the ball and get out.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Just remember, Bayliss is leaving soon. The odi team are world champions and the test side are getting bowled out for 50 against Ireland a week before the biggest and most important test series tournament in the world. Just as we intended.

Thursday

55. The libdem fightback starts here.

sevendaughters

Curran's a warrior, he'll have a dart.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

We could have declared our first innings tbh. Get Ireland out for 150 in these conditions.

iamcoop

Wonder what "positives" Joe and the boys will take from this.

They just know if they get out there and execute their skillsets
