That's actually something about Wikipedia I think is really stupid and pointless.

That isn't the most egregious example to be fair. If the article actually has a similar name (like you're looking for info on Muse the band and accidentally end up at the article about the Greek goddesses of inspiration) then it's really useful. Otherwise, it's just clutter.

The other thing is that if you arrived at the Casino article by searching for "Gambling house" then Wikipedia redirected you there, which means Wikipedia knows you typed "Gambling house" and therefore could presumably only show you the disambiguation link in that situation.

You think that's bad? Standard 52-card deck - a fairly precise title you think?
QuoteSeveral terms redirect here. For other uses, see Two of Diamonds (album), Two of hearts (disambiguation), Three of hearts (disambiguation), Three of Diamonds (book), Four of Diamonds (band), IV of Spades, The Five of Hearts (film), Six of hearts (disambiguation), Seven of Spades (film), and Ten-of-diamonds decahedron.
Is this really clearer than letting people think "hmm I wanted info on the four of diamonds, maybe I should just try Diamonds (suit)".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Lopez_(serial_killer)

how many killings:

QuoteThe 2006 edition of the Guinness World Records credited Lopez as being the "most prolific serial killer".

The listing was removed after complaints that it made a competition out of murder, as well as comments that it overlooked killers such as Thug Behram, who reportedly murdered around 900 people in India.

'It's insensitive to include a murderer as a record-breaker. It's also unjust because there's actually an even better one.'

Adam Priestley, a footballer for the Gibraltar national team:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Priestley

QuoteAdam currently lives in the beautiful town of Knottingley, West Yorkshire, with his fiancé Lucy and daughter Aubrey who was born in early 2020. Ever the romantic, Priestley 'popped the question' on a family holiday to Florida in August 2019. Having asked Lucy to be his girlfriend with a large, handmade banner, Adam knew that he had to do one better for their engagement and rose to the occasion whilst away.

I have a sneaking suspicion, and I don't know why, that Adam added this bit in.

Bronzy

Having looked at the edit history, perhaps not. The same person who put that in had previously also added this insightful piece of information:

QuoteAdam has spoken publicly about his ongoing battle with male pattern baldness, having lost almost all of his hair in his late 20s. He is keen for other young men who suffer with the same condition not to fee embarassed as he did and advocates strongly the wearing of baseball caps as a way of 'hiding the bald'. However, this too causes a struggle for Priestley due to the incredibly small size of his head and the need to buy hats in children's sizes.

He's a teacher at a school in Leeds, so the number of potential suspects is endless, really.

Found this when reading about Eddie Bunker, the ex-con turned Hollywood writer:

QuoteHe was the godfather of one of his good friends/cellmates Matthew Clayton Smith's son, Bwadley Smith.

Bwadley???

QuoteBwadley was largely known for being the Strongest Child in Ontario in 2014 pushing a car three blocks by himself at age 7.

I suspect unfortunately that it's bullshit - Bunker died in 2005 so couldn't have been the godfather of a child who was 7 in 2014 - but it seems a bizarre thing to put in there.

In fact now I found an earlier version which states that:

QuoteIn early 2015 he adopted long time friends Travis Suds and Matt Smith. This made him grandfather to Bradley Smith, the Strongest Boy alive as he once at the age of 8 pushed a Broken Honda Accord across two blocks.

but the dates still don't work. So who is Bradley/Bwadley Smith and why is someone so determined to link him to Eddie Bunker?

The article on Kelowna, BC has a "Significant Events" section

Quote
- On 3 July 1877, George Mercer Dawson was the first geologist to visit Kelowna.[11]
- On 6 August 1969, a sonic boom from a nearby air show broke a quarter million dollars worth of glass, injuring six people.
- The last time the lake completely froze over was in the winter of 1969. It may have frozen over in the winter of 1986.[13]

I still think Wikipedia vandalism is not nearly as funny as when Wikipedia thinks it's writing brilliant encyclopaedic prose but is failing catastrophically.

I did laugh at this description of the London Boys' dancing style:

I can just imagine the rehearsals now..."Edem! Dennis! Stop spinning on your heads and do some fucking choreography!"

Luxembourgish footballer Daniel da Mota has a subheading on his Wiki page that is simply titled "Criminal Conviction". It reads as follows:

QuoteDan Da Mota was prosecuted for having taken advantage of the weakened state of an octogenarian. The court sentenced him to two years in prison with a suspended sentence and a fine of 5,000 euros. He has the obligation to compensate the civil party up to 150,500 euros.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_da_Mota#Criminal_Conviction

As soon as I read the line "having taken advantage of the weakened state of an octogenarian" I started giggling uncontrollably.

While reading up on purgatory as part of the background research for a new HS Art thread

QuoteSome forms of Western Christianity, particularly within Protestantism, deny its existence. Other strands of Western Christianity see purgatory as a place, perhaps filled with fire.

The casual "maybe there's fire, maybe not, who knows!" really made me laugh.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purgatory

QDRPHNC

Well it's purgatory, so you'd expect a bit of fire, but probably not so much as they would have in hell.

Ferris

It's like a Python sketch where one hell-obsessed priest suggests "just a bit of fire?" and to the annoyance of everyone at the Synod, no one has evidence of what this entirely fictitious place looks like and Bishop Fiery-Fancier just won't bloody drop it, so they agree that "perhaps" there is fire just so they can move on.

QuoteThe current record for the lowest score in the specialist subject round is jointly held by Simon Curtis and Steve Ferry, who both only scored 1 point when answering questions on the life & films of Jim Carrey and the Thirty Years' War respectively.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastermind_(British_game_show)

The thought of some increasingly sweaty guy getting question after question wrong about the "life and films of Jim Carrey" is one of the funniest things ever. I don't even want to go find the actual clip, because it can't top my imagination.

Quickly looked up the film Wish Upon after RedLetterMedia mentioned it in one of their reviews as it sounded enjoyably terrible. The Wikipedia page seems to have been written by a fan and their mangling of the phrase below really caught me off guard:

QuoteThe film is loosely based on W. W. Jacobs' short story The Monkey's Paw. The film's screenplay was voted to the 2015 Black List.[8] Catherine Hardwicke was originally planned to direct the film, but she later was removed from the project. Afterward, producer Sherryl Clark sent a draft of the script to John R. Leonetti; he explained that while he did enjoy the script, "I didn't completely jump on at first because I had other things going on."[9] However, another draft sent by Clark four months later caught his eyeballs

From the article on Coldplay's 2000 hit 'Trouble'

QuoteAccording to Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin, the song's writing was inspired by his own behaviour. Martin recalls, "There were some bad things going in our band ... the song is about behaving badly towards somebody you really love and I was certainly doing that to some members of the band." He added that he supposed it was about time to stop acting like a knobhead.[1]

I find the cumulative effect of reading the status column of this list of man-made objects on the moon quite funny.

Just the amount of repetitions of "crashed" and "intentionally crashed" starts to seem like some kind of monument to failure and nihilism.

Not related to Wikipedia, but Jim Carrey guy actually complained to Channel 4 when David Walliams called him "thick". He lost. Sadly/fortunately there doesn't seem to be a video online.

In 1975, Petersen and his wife Joanne Brady welcomed a daughter, Maite. In June 2003, Petersen married longtime girlfriend Gina Cirone. He has two grandsons, Mazrik William (born October 2003) and Indigo August (born August 2009). He is an avid Chicago Cubs fan. In 2004, he described to Playboy a near-death experience he had in the 1980s which gave him "assurance" that there is an afterlife.[26]

On July 5, 2011, Petersen and Cirone (via surrogate) welcomed opposite-sex twins (a son and a daughter).[27]
