Can we have a sub-category of programmes which use embarrassing stop-motion-style sequences of photos of their cast members pulling silly faces / striking silly poses in their opening credits?

Arrested Development.

The weird Gilliamesque animations used to portray the death of Rohm in The World at War.

Catalogue Trousers

The very late 1970s kids' adventure series The Danedyke Mystery had some rather lovely animated opening credits, as I recall.

Cribb - a mix of illustrations of old crime scenes and pixellated moving photos.
Ditto for the Two of Us.

Jittlebags

Doesn't really count as it's 'colorised', split live action, but still, just for the bit where he gets boffed on the nose at 26s, Jason King.

There's an entire stop-motion episode of Community, but it's a Christmas episode unfortunately.

And an animated GI-Joe pastiche in season 6 which was really pretty funny

The Doctor Who episode Can You Hear Me? has an animated bit of backstory: https://youtu.be/H5dErPnfldg?t=38

Restored, previously missing, episodes of Dr. Who have animation to fill the gaps where some of the film is still missing.

Are there any animated series with short live actions inserts, such as The Beatles do at the end of Yellow Submarine? Or schools TV where a live presenter introduces an animation? Or maybe an animator introducing his/her own work? Disney Time, of course (celebs introducing Disney clips), and Rolf's Cartoon Club.

Take Hart, Vision On, Jigsaw

I think The Simpsons has done it a few times. Pretty sure Family Guy has as well.

Fringe predictably played with this a bit.

And of course the Farscape episode Revenging Angel, which is mostly played out as a Roadrunner & Coyote style cartoon in Crichton's head.

The Simpson, about 3 minutes in. They also had the scene with Katy Perry many years later, and probably others.

Family Guy has done it loads of times.

South Park had Pam Brady in Mr Adler's flashback scene (and some other live action scenes).

The titles to Tropic

https://youtu.be/Wo21LRTc1Uc?t=412 - Weird Gilliam-esque storybook animation in Fall of Eagles.  Also weird to see Tony Jay on shonky BBC film.  And battle scenes portrayed via closeups on paintings with camera moving about and sound FX.

Carl Sagan's Cosmos

The photographic titles of the Duchess of Duke St
The animated assembly of the penny farthing in the Prisoner.

The old Super Mario Bros show did, and Dog City would cut between animation and puppets in parallel storylines. And the Super Dave cartoon had live-action sketches at the end. Christ knows where they got the budget for the sketch at the end of that episode, though.

George White

the Back to the Future cartoon had Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown giving science lessons IIRC at the end.

Olivier Presents - Come Back Little Sheba (1977) by Granada uses a camera floating over a drawing of a small town and a railway crossing with a girl outside with soundtracks over it, before seguing into a montage of drawing images that slowly morph into colour and fade into live atction.

Also, the Olivier Presents version of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.  Using barely animated drawings in lieu of exteriors, and with an over-ripe soundtrack, over-jaunty American radio music, but also opens with a shot of the  mansion going from day to night - represented by an animated painting.

Into the Storm (2009) and The Gathering Storm 2002 both have animated titles. Gathering has the letters of the characters contract and expand as they get closer to the screen. Into the Storm has black blocks against stock footage, and also CG animation for certain shots.

RKO 281 (1999) has credited CG animators, presumably for mattes and the spinning newspapers.
CGI animation and digital mattes credited in Nuremberg 2000.

ANimated subtitles - with the noise of typewriter in Sword of Gideon (1986).
Twist of Fate (1989) is a serious WW2 story, but because it uses Cooper Black, it ends up looking like a dark Dad's Army spinoff. The sole animation is the Columbia lady.
Lost Empires - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQJLR_ylsgc the characters coming to life in the crowds - plus the Granada logo.
