Fucking hell. I feel like I'm watching the new series of Police Squad.

Sonny_Jim

I watched it a few times and eventually one eye got wet, does that count?

QuoteTook my 84 year old mum to the game last night. She's been a Liverpool supporter her whole life but this was her first European final. We got to the ground at 18.30 local time and she was in her wheelchair. We both had genuine tickets but were told they were fake and when she asked the police office to hand her ticket back she was pepper sprayed and rolled off behind a cage so she could "calm down". When she tried to leave one of the police officers put some sort of bike lock around her wheelchair and this wasn't released until the game was finished. The whole trip cost me £5000.

Crosspost from the Beatles cover thread:

From the Late Show, Australian satire show of the 90s much loved by certain people on here.

A barely exaggerated parody of the Australian/Ozploitation film industry/the 10ba tax dodge era.
Anyone here who's seen Not Quite Hollywood will know this. Especially as 'Perso' is very clearly meant to be Tony I Ginnane, basically the Roger Corman of Melbourne, producer of such video shop era classics as Patrick, the Survivor, Race for the Yankee Zephyr, Harlequin, Turkey Shoot, and a bit of sleaze (the Australian-American porno Fantasm - John Holmes and John Bluthal together at last!), as well as the miniseries Great Expectations - the Untold Story (with Magwitch's convict days expanded) clearly the basis for Joe Bugner in Wuthering Heights Down Under.

The Yee Dinosaur meme is so incredibly stupid. And yet.

Saw this picture I'd saved about 6 months ago and forgotten about. Finished me off it has.

Povidone

That's outstanding. I knew it was going to be something special when the jovial singer tossed his mic from one hand to another.

Butchers Blind

That was tremendous value. The old dears in the crowd loved it and there's no better a ringing endorsement than from Paul Daniels.

DrGreggles

All about the brief cut to the piano player for me, Clive.

So good I'm saving the second half till tomorrow

badaids

You can see that James Brown based much of his act on this.

It has to be noted that both of these people are in their mid 40s here and would be dead within 10 years.

Picasso became a Cubist because of 'woke ideology' (see replies).

Ok, maybe not cry with laughter, but they made me laugh.

Haha I think that one tweet sums up everything a conservative feels about art.

Admittedly, I fucking love the technical ability to produce that realistic art, and the further away things from the real life forms become, the more intimidating it is, but fuuuuuucking hell, dead inside.

Most conservatives today, wittingly or not, only really care about art insofar as it serves as culture war ammunition. It wasn't always the case. Consider that Ernest Hemingway, at the height of his communist phase, used to subscribe to the Action Française daily paper for what he considered the best art reviews in Europe, and that The Daily Telegraph and magazines like The Spectator and The New Criterion used to have very decent, if not very good, arts coverage.

Dürer never fails to astound me. He always managed to find some whole new level of mastery of the engraving technique, and his lines are sometimes so fine that they are hard to see even with reading glasses. In a "fuck my hat" moment, it was only the other day that I found out his famous Melencolia I was designed on a 24.1 x 19.1 cm surface, somewhat larger than an A5 (21 x 15 cm).  It's probably no accident that Dürer's father was a goldsmith and his first apprenticeship was in metal-working, but the technical ability required to pack so much detail into such a small area is still mind-boggling (and awe-inspiring).
