Soulseek v's Direct Connect (DC++)

Just wondering  if anyone here uses Direct Connect.
I thought I'd ask seeing as my soulseek server is down and Im not sure if its down where you lot are too.

I set up a small Direct Connect hub a month ago for mates and family etc but have been offline due to changing over to a better ISP.
Now Im back and if anyone wants to join let me know and I'll give you the address.
Is this worth posting here? I posted a while back but got no feedback so Im trying to get an idea of where you all stand regarding this software.
I like it cos its more private and doesnt tend to have the idiots that a lot of other shareing clients have. Especially as  it can allow or not allow certain people in.

Im no tech head but Id'd be glad to get any feedback ideas etc on this.
I am online 24/7 so the hub would be up all the time. If for some reason I go offline your transfers will still continue (like soulseek).

I used DC++ for porn for a short while and it seemed fairly good, software-wise. But Soulseek is unique in that the people on there have unusually good taste in music, or I suppose a more "neutral" way of putting that would be "a taste in music similar to us lot". A DC++ hub with us lot in it might work but presumably only as well as a CaB slsk room would... and obviously that already exists.

Considering that and the fact that BitTorrent can provide for all of our other needs (and eliminates any chance of downloading 'fake' or modified files), I'd say that DC++ is "good but redundant".

As a side issue I think that the network is called Direct Connect and there are several clients which you can use to access it, although I'm pretty sure DC++ is agreed to be the best one by most.

Hehe well don't take my word for it, if others like DC++ more than slsk then I guess that's justification enough to move over - i.e. the most important thing here is the number of people willing to use it regularly.

BitTorrent and slsk do their respective jobs very well, and people are used to them now, that's all...

DC does look like a nicer choice than Soulseek. As you said, it sort of fits the purpose of our little group better.

Never really got on with either Soulseek or DC.

Torrent for TV stuff & porn
Emule for albums and anything else really.

Anyone else gone completely over the top with their P2P setup? We use mldonkey, sitting on the router. It's controlled through a lovely web interface, so can do all my stuff from work, and support the edonkey, Overnet, and BitTorrent network.

It is by far the best donley client I have used. That's mainly because most donkey clients are shite.

With emule you have to leave it on 24/7 due to the credit system it uses. Over time your download rate will increase. As you become a good sharer you will jump peoples queues. You also need to download lots of files at the same time.
You could try the LSD mod as it has more user configurable options and can perform well straight away.
That network really can't be beat for albums though. Or a search for 'discographie' or 'discographia' will return, well, whole discographies in one download.

i use slsk and dc. i'm in the CaB room on slsk as often as possible as nameffoj, and i idle in a private hub for my emulation buddies on DC while i am sucked dryer than condaleeza rice's cunt.
