Pauline Walnuts

Last thing officially released under Inga Copeland name, this bit of dub whatever it is. 7" single from 2016

Quote from: Brundle-Fly on June 03, 2022, 03:03:53 PMI was going to nominate this behemoth of a track at some point but I'd missed the boat by four years because I had it on the album in 2012. Didn't realise she re-released it in 2016.

Ah, didn't realise it had already been out in 2012 - seems it was originally on this EP: https://www.discogs.com/master/492202-Anna-Meredith-Black-Prince-Fury

Karl Blau - That's How I Got to Memphis

This one's not only a cover version, but also another one that came out previously in a different version (credited to Mount Analog ft. Karl Blau in 2008).

This version comes from the 2016 album Introducing Karl Blau. Despite the title, Blau is actually a singer and musician from Anacortes in Washington State who has been releasing lo-fi albums on small labels since the late 90s. The Introducing... album is a set of covers of country standards produced by Tucker Martine Jr.

'That's How I Got to Memphis' was written and first recorded by Tom T. Hall in 1969 and became a hit on the US country chart for the splendidly named Bobby Bare in 1970.

Richmond Fontaine - Whitey and Me

From the last studio album proper by alt. country band Richmond Fontaine. The band disbanded as leader Willy Vlautin increasingly found recognition for his novels - usually featuring the same kinds of drifters and outcasts on the fringes of American society that populate his songs - and also pursued musical collaboration with singer Amy Boone in country-soul outfit The Delines.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Whitney - No Matter Where We Go

A bit of summery falsetto blue-eyed soul for your sun-blessed pleasure. Whitney are an American band from Chicago. This is taken from their debut album, Light Upon the Lake.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

The Yearning - You Stopped the World

One more delicate dandelion spore of Elefant Records chamber pop before we bid farewell to 2016.

A Projection - I'm Not Here

https://open.spotify.com/track/3MSO1GquVicreiO7f5wnJ3

indie rock/post-punk band from Stockholm, Sweden.

From "Framework "

"makes heavy use of electronics and effects – the drums and vocals are punctuated by heavy delay, which stretches out the otherwise sparse arrangement into a dark abstract soundscape "

Arbouretum - Fall From an Eyrie

https://youtu.be/o6MG5NgrcV8

Baltimore-based rock band led by Dave Heumann

From "Song of the Rose"

"Song of the Rose won't do much for your next dance party, but if you're looking for music that's intelligent and introspective but still revels in the beauty of the world around us, then Arbouretum have made an album you need to hear"

Butchers Blind

Mike Adams At His Honest Weight - Diem Be

"Mike Adams At His Honest Weight is the flagship recording project of Mike Adams, musician, writer, TV host, parent, humorist. Taken from the band's 3rd album, Casino Drone, honing a blend of shoegaze, dream pop, and '70s singer/songwriter  charms."

Offa Rex - The Queen of Hearts

The title track from the sole album (to date) from Offa Rex - a collaboration between the Decemberists and English folk singer and musician Olivia Chaney. The album mainly contains versions of traditional folk songs and is heavenly influenced by the likes of Steeleye Span and Pentangle.

H. Hawkline - Engineers

H. Hawkline, aka Huw Evans, is a Welsh singer-songwriter specialising in characterful, slightly angular indie-pop. This track is from his 2017 album I Romanticize.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Mary Epworth - Me Swimming

Mary Epworth is an idiosyncratic English singer-songwriter. This bewitching gemstone is taken from her second album, Elytral.

Brundle-Fly

Dum Surfer - King Krule.  Released on XL Recordings LTD in 2017.

I flippin' loved this NewWave sounding sleazy lounge number. It evokes the muzak side of The Specials with a hint of Kilburn & The High Roads. Fabulous video too. A cabaret dive I have visited many times myself.

King Krule AKA Archy Marshall (born 24 August 1994), more commonly known by his stage name King Krule, is a singer-songwriter, producer and musician from South East London, England, UK. After a hectic and troubled childhood, he began recording music in 2010 under the moniker "Zoo Kid". The following year, he adopted the name "King Krule". Marshall also records music under many other aliases and co-founded Sub Luna City.

Here Lies Man- Belt of the Sun
Afro-beat drums and heavy riffs combine in a heady psychedlic sun-worshipping brew. This band is an offshoot of the US group Antibalas that stay pretty close to the model of Afrobeat Fela Kuti laid down- this on the other hand is very much it's own banging thing.

Nicholas Krgovich - My Riverboat

Having emerged from the Vancouver indie scene, Canadian singer-songwriter Nicholas Krgovich released In An Open Field, his fifth solo album, in 2017 - a largely mellow affair with shades of Prefab Sprout and Steely Dan and some subtle jazz inflections.

Superb album!

Autobahn - Future

https://youtu.be/Or1JwPooaXE

British post-punk band

From "The Moral Crossing"

"Autobahn makes a very recognizable kind of dark, dramatic post-punk-into-new-wave music, and the easy thing would be to dismiss them as a mid-1980s knock-off. But The Moral Crossing is a very enjoyable record from a band that is already pushing the contours of its sound to find its own center."

Bmx Bandits - Love Me 'til My Heart Stops

https://youtu.be/J7sZU1EU4p0

We must have had them before but I can't specifically remember so - They are a Scottish indie rock/pop band founded in Bellshill, Scotland. Active since 1986

From "Bmx Bandits Forever"

"Bowlcut romantics will swoon for twinkly samba "Saveoursmiles" and "Love Me 'Til My Heart Stops" on his 10th LP, but as wistfulness gives way to despondency on "Rust" and an anguished take on West Side Story's "Somewhere," Stewart's idiosyncratic path feels like an increasingly lonely one"

jamiefairlie

Chastity Belt - Caught in a Lie

https://youtu.be/at6cnECezqw

an indie rock band formed in Walla Walla, WA, USA

From "I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone"

"There's something whimsical about the new record that's hard to pinpoint. The disparity between the lyrics and the sounds is a little disorienting at first, but progresses into something remarkably natural, and invigorating"

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

The Mountain Goats - Andrew Eldritch is Moving Back to Leeds

They're back! And this time they've brought the Godfather of Goth with them (not literally).

QuoteThe Mountain Goats are an American band fronted by singer-songwriter John Darnielle. Throughout the 1990s, they were known for producing low-fidelity home recordings (most notably on a cassette deck boombox) and releasing recordings in cassette or vinyl 7-inch formats. Since 2002, the Mountain Goats have adopted a more polished approach, often recording studio albums with a full band.

Goths is their sixteenth studio album. The band have stated that it was inspired by an adolescence listening to The Cure, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Joy Division.

Coldharbourstores - Marker

https://youtu.be/hhGaUunAViI

British dream pop band

From "Wilderness "

"Wilderness is a logical step for the group, honing their aesthetic, and finding intimate rapture in the peak moments of their carefully crafted songs"

jamiefairlie

Crescent - AC30

https://youtu.be/qpmKKkGguz4

an alternative music band from Bristol, England.

From "Resin Pockets"

"Resin Pockets plays like a found notebook of rapturous Proustian melancholy, everyday moments of dreamlike revelation assembled into weakly-strummed, frailly-sung almost-pop songs that embrace the beauty of transience and imperfection"

jamiefairlie

Daniel O'Sullivan - The Many Are We

https://youtu.be/Kmo0ABmcBIg

British multi-instrumentalist.

From "VELD "

"At once pastoral and cosmic, abstract and undulating, Daniel O'Sullivan's new solo album is a document of everyday enchantment"

Grizzly Bear - Neighbours

From what appears to have been band's final album, Painted Ruins.

Cotton Mather - Girl With a Blue Guitar

You wait a decade and a half for a new Cotton Mather album and then two come along like buses - from 2017's Wild Kingdom.

Annie Booth - Chasm

The lead single from An Unforgiving Light, the debut album by Edinburgh singer-songwriter Annie Booth.
