Hydrogen isn't an energy source. It's a methods of storage and transmission. It's production can be quite dirty.

Also not sure if it would be possible to insulate that many homes that quickly, even if the money was there, we've got a bit of a manpower shortage, apparently.

Ah well, it's better than a kick in the balls, I suppose.

I do a lot of research and economic analysis on hydrogen (for my sins). It can be mixed with LNG and burned in much the same way, something the Germans are getting very excited about.

"Green" hydrogen is typically produced by electrolysis using renewable solar, tidal or (usually) wind energy. That's actually pretty clean and has some functional use-cases, though not as many as politicians think. "Blue" or "grey" hydrogen supplies are a bit of a swizz, you produce them using other electricity sources so you may end up burning nice clean hydrogen but you had to combust a load of coal to make it in the first place (as you point out).

There are people trying innovative and clever ways to make the process more efficient in ways that I don't think are public, and some pretty huge energy firms are getting involved so it'll likely be a properly big market in ~5 years. Scholz and Trudeau will be in my neck of the woods signing an agreement on this very thing in a week or so.

It turns out you get far less flimsy content when it's not the New Statesman doing the interview.

Goldentony

when will this useless fathead cunt resign and let someone with a brain and half a chance of winning take over

If - and I know this is a very big if - your constituency had a left-wing/ socialist Labour candidate at the next general election, would you vote for them? Would you campaign for them?

Zetetic

Depends on the Plaid candidate probably.

Zetetic

And if I'm dead. Can't vote if you're dead.

The information there seems accurate but the figures in green hydrogen production are 18+ months out of date.

The technology is on its way because politicians have got it into their heads it's a miracle fuel we must all develop which becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, and a lot of western nations are speeding up research/investment on H2 so they can all be weaned off Vlad's Massive Gas Hose.

As a result there's a bit of a race on to create and produce this stuff (and figure out how viable it all is, and identify regions that might be well-placed to become an economic hub for green hydrogen which is where I come in).

Basically, it can be good but if someone is talking about hydrogen without saying "green" at the beginning, it's a smokescreen because they're cunts.

Yes, but unfortunately my candidate is Rachel Reeves.

Any socialist who lives in Zarah Sultana's constituency,  if she fights deselection off,  should be campaigning for her,  she holds a very marginal seat and she is an excellent egg.

QuoteBlumf, Labour has a plan to deal with the Conservative cost of living crisis.

Many people are scared about how they'll make ends meet through the winter.

I often think about a woman I spoke to in my constituency earlier this year. She had freezing hands and purple fingers because her pension wasn't enough to pay for the heating.

Instantly hilarious image.  Starmer "often thinking about" a woman who has purple, bloated fingers.  Just keeps popping into his head!

Green Hydrogen by Davidoff.
Pour le centre. Pour jambon. Pour hommes.

That was Rachel Reeves thinking about a woman with freezing hands and purple fingers.

And if you don't believe she thinks about that a lot, here's some pictures of her smiling

I wish politicians wouldn't try the sexy, alluring thing. It's like watching your parents drunk-flirting with the neighbours.

As long as it's not a nutter's party like whatever UKIP's calling itself these days, I'll vote for whoever's most likely to beat the Tory. In practice, that'll mean Labour or Lib Dem, and I realise that means I'll be holding my nose either way, but fuck me, we've got to get rid of these cunts, and given the choice even if they're also cunts I'd sooner have the party that's less likely to go full fascist.

I would if they'd stepped up like Zara, but they are very few and far between.  IMO, we're long past keeping sleepers sitting in the hopes of Labour suddenly waking up.  I'd actively campaign for any decent left wing party, even if they had little or no chance, because a message needs to be received.  We need to sound the alarm.

Mine might be Eddie Izzard. And no I wouldn't

There are legitimate use cases for hydrogen, like industry and some forms of heavy transport (where it has a better energy density than batteries), but the UK government case relies heavily on carbon capture-based methods (where you generate loads of CO2 then dump it in a cave), which are at best unproven.

You can also capture lots of hydrogen from interstellar space, though. So there's always that.

QuoteI would if they'd stepped up like Zara, but they are very few and far between.

There are about 35 or so MPs,  and the biggest contingent of socialist councillors by far.

Once again, the argument to not support these people only makes sense by clinging to a falsehood which is that one must choose between doing one or the other action rather than both (or many).

pigamus

I'd have to vote for Zarah if I were in Coventry South, considering how tiny her majority is

your mum is water-gilding a frame with 24 carat gold for a picture of you aged two in dungarees with your sister.

Last time I'd visited I found they'd put up a frame of holiday photos in the downstairs bog. Last thing I want to look at when I'm dropping my bat to be honest.

But this is a new party prepared to take the necessary steps to win power. That being the deliberate alienation of the left and bankruptcy of party finances so that rich people with right wing interests can swoop in and save the day. But I'm sure there won't be any strings attached!
