were Zig and Zag?

Yeah, they were massive here in Ireland from the start and although obstensibly for kids had crossover success with teens & students, hence the Hot Press cover. Probably a lot different to how they came across in the UK with the Big Breakfast and all. They were a rare example of Irish media getting something right at the time. I think their attempt to crack the UK was generally seen as an inevitable understandable sellout.

But of course it never happens because as we all know they don't give a shit about transmen. Has anyone worked out why?

The answer is that they consider trans women still women, and deem them confused lesbians. Or lesbians groomed by the patriarchy. They are victims because they are female by birth, just as transwomen are aggressors because they are male by birth. According to them.

They were bloody great, Zig & Zag. Loved them on The Big Breakfast and their own show on Channel 4 tea-time had some lovely moments. It was my first exposure to what Sparks looked like on that show.

According to their Wikipedia page, they turned 50 earlier this year (born on 29th February 1971).

EDIT: Just realised there's no such date as February 29th 1971.

Zig and Zag were on Irish TV a good few years before UK TV, and were an instant success.

(Sorry -- I see this has already been answered.)

Weird little piece by a guest writer, that starts out talking about Rose McGowan getting into a shouting match reasoned debate with a trans women and ends up with 'REDDIT IS FULL OF PAEDOS'.  What I found interesting is that the piece on the SGB makes it seem like the trans women is fucking batshit mental and Rose is completely stoic, whereas if you read the article it links to it seems to describe a completely different event:

Quote from: Ploppy plop from the SGB
The heckler is peacefully removed while chanting, "White cis feminism!" in an apparent attempt to rouse the audience. For their part, the men in the crowd stare at the interloper in shocked silence, and several women laugh.

After the removal of the heckler, urged on by supportive cheers, McGowan rises and shouts, "I do not subscribe to your language!" and proceeds to condemn the use of demeaning labels. A woman in the crowd responds, "We're so grateful," and a man offers, "We love you." These moments of consolation would later be edited out of most of the video clips uploaded to social media and thereby scrubbed from public consciousness.

Now lets compare that to Time magazines version of events
Quote
"Talk about what you said on RuPaul," the woman reportedly said. "Trans women are dying and you said that we, as trans women, are not like regular women. We get raped more often. We go through domestic violence more often. There was a trans woman killed here a few blocks [away]. I have been followed home —."

At that point, McGowan interrupted and responded with, "We are the same," among other comments, the Independent reports. From there, things escalated into a screaming match. The audience member was eventually escorted out by security and McGowan launched into an expletive-laden retort on stage.

On Friday, McGowan took to Twitter to announce that she is canceling upcoming public appearances, and to criticize the "publicists, t assistants, managers and every person sitting in their chairs frozen" who failed to come to her aid during what she said was a two-minute verbal assault by a paid actor.

Now in the eyes of the SGB, Rose McGowan was a brave women standing up against the evil trans, or there's the Time version where Rose goes all gammony and says it was a paid actor.  Why would you even link to that source if it's going to completely contradict your narrative?[nb]Gaslighting, probably.  You can't believe the real news, you should only believe me[/nb]

The rest of it is the usual SGB 'Go on fetish site, find trans, call them paedos':

In December 2020, while researching the influence of pornography on gender ideology, I noticed that Dier had reappeared on Reddit and Twitter, advertising homemade 'sissy' pornography.

The above incident happened in 2018, so I don't know why [nb]I do know why, we all know why[/nb] the guest writer's bringing it up now. McGowan later apologized in 2019.

https://www.gaystarnews.com/article/rose-mcgowan-apology-trans/

Quote'I would like to say I'm sorry,' McGowan told in an interview with PinkNews.

She furthermore continued: 'I didn't have the correct language. I am, you know, an older woman from Hollywood. It's not exactly the place for understanding the language.'

'It's just been a learning process and evolution.'

She admitted she should have used 'cis woman'.

'I really do understand a lot more about the terminology, the struggle and have a lot more respect for it. And I think that's important,' she also said.

'I'm here to say to people that are scared of trans-ness, we're all women, we're just different kinds of women and different kinds of men. There's a huge spectrum to be had in that. And I think that's a really beautiful thing.'

[...]

She also weighed in on the conversation about TERFs, saying she didn't believe they 'actually existed'.

'I thought they can't be real. And it's shocking to me because it's so... I mean don't you realize what you fought for? You know as women, cis women, don't you know what you fought for?'

McGowan continued: 'We fought for the right to have a voice and to be counted and that fight is not so different, you know, fundamentally, at its core.'

[...]

The Scream actress is currently dating non-binary model Rain Dove.

She also revealed she has dated women in the past. However, she has never publicly addressed her same-sex relationships for fear or reprisal in Hollywood.

"research"

Sonny_Jim

It was a guest writer so not Glinner.  Still he posts it on his blog so at the very least he endorses it.

Zetetic

I vaguely wonder if we'll see a coming together of Western opposition to "gender ideology" and Eastern European opposition to "LGBT ideology", despite the latter's homophobia.

There's a short piece* by Jon Ronson in the Observer about people who believe in conspiracy theories. It doesn't mention Graham by name and yet...

Quote
High-scoring narcissists are prone to paranoia and black-and-white thinking. Through their eyes everyone is either wonderful or else they're the enemy. (Often the wonderful person commits some minor transgression and instantly becomes the enemy; if you've been close to a narcissist you'll probably recognise that "love-bomb, devalue, discard" relationship arc.) And narcissists need to feel like they're the smartest person in the room

I imagine this will needle him to the point we'll see Ronson related posts on the SGB.

*I don't think it's a newly commissioned piece, it reads like an extract from an introduction to a new printing of one of his books.

god what the fuck is the obsession with one type of pornography[nb]I'm excluding CP from pornography here as its existence is fucking evil and anybody making it or watching it should be fired into the sun. Assume by pornography I mean the kind involving adults.[/nb] and its Terrible Influence

like

there are so many wider feminist critiques to be made of pornography

and even if you enjoy porn you have to admit that teenagers having access to the entire depraved internet in their beds via their smartphones isn't a great idea, regardless of what they're watching

the same thing as usual, ignoring a wider social issue because it doesn't affect you in favour of zeroing in on 1% of it that you personally find distasteful and need to justify destroying

Dustin certainly saw it as a sellout.

That's my favourite TV clip of all time. I loved how unhinged Dustin was, there was always a worry he would say something genuinely regrettable on kids TV.

Not even Dustin's doing but Pat O'Mahony was on The Den (c.94 when I should have been in college) and Dustin accused him of being into line dancing (which was the style at the time). O'Mahony replied "Ah now, the only lines I've done..." before realising he was on kids' TV and sheepishly adding "Commercial break?". You could hear stifled laughter while Dustin and Socky stood immobile.

Wouldn't Dawkins know that race and gender are social constructs? Hasnt it been proven there are no actual races like scientifically?

idunnosomename

Dawkins has surely gone a bit senile last ten years. Unlike Graham (who was always a cunt) i think something went wrong with his brain

Blue Jam

Doesn't matter, the Glinnerati will be overjoyed to have Clever Science Man on board.

Yup, I used to know a woman like this about ten years ago.  Everything and everybody in her life was so black and white that I ended up googling "black and white thinking" and that's when I learnt that it's actually a thing and often goes hand in hand with NPD (which I'd first heard of six years earlier).

The way she could turn on a sixpence from regarding someone as a great bunch of lads/lasses to the devil incarnate just because they said or did one silly thing was truly frightening.

I'm not sure she had NPD though[nb]Possibly EUPD though, but I wouldn't like to say for sure.[/nb], as she didn't exhibit most of the traits of it.  Unlike a certain someone else, whose treatment of people like Ronson etc. has reminded me of her more than once...
