There's a track on the new Anti Nowhere League album called Ain't We Having Fun, lyrically it's pretty nasty right wing bollocks, musically it's the theme from Rentaghost https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNFIG8uAJes

In the supermarket earlier they had some Rod Stewart album on... one song was a total rip of The Beatles' 'Don't Let Me Down', I thought another was Stewart's cover of Tom Wait's 'Downtown Train' but it turned out to be an, er, rip-off of the cover or something. Very poor, Stewart, very poor.

Yep, that's it!

And hey...

QuotePart II provides a coda to the song and employs a melody identical to The Beatles' "Don't Let Me Down". In a 1980 interview, John Lennon said, "the lawyers never noticed".

The Chain by Fleetwood Mac is a sort of reworking of Lola (My Love) off the earlier Buckingham Nicks album before they joined the band.

Buckingham reworked his solo track Doing What I Can into a huge Fleetwood Mac hit

Ah, hadn't heard that, fucking obvious.

Though in fairness he did go apeshit on it for The Dance solo performance which is just unbridled amazingness.

There's a bit in All the Way From Memphis by Mott The Hoople that sounds really similar to a bit in the Fun House themetune (kids show presented by Pat Sharpe in the early 90s). The bit where the piano descends the scale.

Mott : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubBpu3MHmtM
Fun House : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nVTcVgLUQU

I've heard the song a few times and it's impossible for me not to sing along aloud or in my head 'It's a real wacky show where anything'll go!'

I think I prefer the Fun House theme tune tbh.

It will have been mentioned before, but Andrew W.K.'s I Love NYC always reminds me of the Fun House theme;

The Pokemon Go map music sounds like Electronic's "Getting Away with It"

The music they're playing on the BBC Olympics coverage sounds like a rocked-out version of Stereolab's Ping Pong.

And talking of the Velvet Underground, I was once at a party and heard a track by them which I was convinced was this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NskZaSJk1Q

Not sure which VU song it was though. I seem to remember it as Venus In Furs but I knew that song beforehand and I wasn't THAT drunk. Any idea?

Norton Canes

I think I said this not so long ago on another thread but the little melody going on in Orbital's Times Fly is remarkably similar to the one used in the theme to

(go on, have a guess first).

Sweet Jane?

Nope. Not that either. I just can't place which VU track it is but I definitely thought it was The Beautiful South. How annoying.

Coldplay - Yes?

No. Its not that either. This party was pre-Coldplay (around 1996) and it's not as if I was unfamiliar with the works of either the Velvet Underground or The Beautiful South, which is why it was so odd for me to get the two acts mixed up. Maybe it was all a dream.

That might be it. I'm not totally sure though.I can see similarities in the other songs mentioned too. It sure was a swinging party!

Captain Z

As I work my way through all the UK number 1s ever, I was struck by the similarity of the bridge in B*witched's Rollercoaster and the song Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Reminded of this one this morning:

Blur's "Colin Zeal"...

Colin Zeal was written about Blur's then-manager Dave Balfe(formerly of The Teardrop Explodes) so it's perfectly possible it was deliberate.

I believe the Boo Radleys did a "homage" to it on the outro of Twinside, just listen to that brass.

It always put that song in my head too.

Vodka Margarine

Anyone mentioned Janet Jackson's 'Together Again' sounding a lot like the bridge zone music on Sonic the Hedgehog?

Never knew that; nice one.  That would also make for nice manager-twitting continuity with Copey's post-TDE "Bill Drummond Said"...
